It's a horrific illness that we call Brand Loyalty.

I think it's necessary for people to defend these actions companies take, because without them people will just think all of what they are doing is wrong. Most of the time, there is a logical explanation for their actions. Whether they are justified or not varies from case to case. But none of the big three make decisions just to screw with the customers and make money. Some of them are legitimately concerned about things like piracy or the evolution of gaming.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

All of the above. There is also the lack of a certain characteristic but I rather not mention exactly what that is.
Yeah! These companies shouldn't try to make money!
I guess that's what your point is.
It's just like having a religion but with plastic instead of sacred books and CEOs replacing apostles/religion representatives.
It really is a weird thing some humans like to cater to, in order to boost their self esteem, or perhaps something else? Although religions can help you go through hard times and give moral lessons, something brands don't do (or do they).
''Hey look my car is better than yours!'' or '' Your religion is false, only tells the truth! '' are just some examples of such behavior, like brand loyalists tend to say.
Humans are so childish sometimes.

What are you doing, not complaining on the internet?? Start complaining or get off!

It's funny what you said
In marketing/advertising we do say that Jesus was the first international marketing professional.... he had a product: the Bible, he chose a logo: the cross ahd a bunch of sale's rep: the apostals and a sale speech: tales of his miracles
now I would argue that an XB or any tech device has helped me more going through hard times than any religion personaly :D
that said yeah human are childish..... but what exacly is wrong with that ???? not only is it more enjoyable to feel like a child in a fancy expensive muscle car than in a junker with 150k miles on.... but selfesteem is an essential accomplishment for the human long term welbeing....
and honnestly what harm is done in a dick contest about which console is better???? it's all good fun.... that forum would be completely dead if it wasn't for console war..... look at the PC gaming forum it looks like a retirement home tea party in there :D
tbh its a shame microsoft listened to the outrage on the internet.
90% of the population doesn't know whats good for us.
allways online, would have meant extra features ( iow cloud useage on all games )
drm=cheaper games
what the general puplic thinks is wrong isn't wrong per se

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Guards against piracy can't always be hidden behind socalled features. Always online would have been too restrictive for many people; tighter controls and DRM on current downloaded games on Xbox Market Place and PS Store haven't made them cheaper now.
Competition is the key to lower game prices. If MS and Sony allowed alternate shops to be available on the Xbox and PlayStation then companies would compete with deals and therefore games would be cheaper, the DRM would come with it to make sure you don't then pirate that copy of the game. Make downloading games more appealing and people would be fine with it but many would still like the option of a disc.
Hmm, pie.
