Forums - Gaming Discussion - I Don't Understand Why People Defend Companies When What They're Doing Is Wrong

I criticize my favorite company(s) all the time

.. also, dont PS fans criticise their fav company the most out of all fans?

Im pretty sure they do

Won't read it if you don't put paragraphs.

" EA incorporating the online pass into titles and putting microtransactions into their games."

A bitch move indeed but did anyone actually like EA before they did all this? Some of their portfolio; probably, but the company itself? It must have some sort of world record for pulling the most "worst company" awards ever.

Can people stop having such long paragraphs? :/

I want to read what you said but its just too long.... Split that into two or three paragraphs damn ittttt

People defend their favorite companies because the alternatives are either not buying their products or buying them despite thinking the company is full of it, which sort of hurts your pride. Basically defending the companies is a defense mechanism for the self; it acts as a way to still buy the products without feeling like a sheepish consumer.

I say it a lot and I'll say it again: vote with your dollar. Don't defend a company because it makes you feel better about yourself. And even if you're willing to support a company because you think it deserves it, be willing to admit when they make really stupid decisions.

1- Forcing the Kinect upon consumers? Again, how could you defend that?

2 - there was Nintendo bringing out the Wii Mini, which is essentially a rip-off and yet people were defending it and saying it was a "bargain."

3 - Sony forcing us to pay for online in order to play multiplayer on PS4.

4 - EA incorporating the online pass into titles and putting microtransactions into their games. Not to mention the DRM.

5 - We should be bashing Sony and Microsoft for having large failure rates on their consoles.

6 - We should bash Nintendo for releasing their console prematurely with little to no killer titles.

I removed the subjects that I don't have enough info to talk about, but I will give my 2 cents about the rest. Personal opinion, of course:

1 - I don't see it as wrong. Kinect is a controller, as the Dualshock or XBox gamepad. If it is expensive and the console SKU will be priced higher, then it's a consumers choice if it is worthy or not the price.

2 - Force PS Plus to play online is something that I didn't liked, not even a bit. I got Plus anyway because I will play online on PS4 and because of the free games (of course!) and it looks like I will have to just deal with it to play online on PS4.

3 - That is totally crap bullshit from EA. But they aren't the only ones doing that, Sony, Rockstar and others do the same (just to point that EA isn't alone on this). Online passes don't affect me that mich because I only buy new games, but my point of view about DRM is that, even whent you don't want to do something that violates the rules, it will simply not work.

An example: original softwares, bought legally that simply have license issues and require me to contact their tech support and so on, while a pirated copy would just work (not defending it, just pointing what happens)

Microtransactions just remove the value of competitive online multiplayer because you can buy your way to the top. Always online DRM is a game over for me. It's the problems of my previous example several times worse. My point is: I don't grab pirate copies of games, but I won't buy games that create problems to the legal user to avoid the pirate ones, it's like being punished by paying for the game.

4 - Until now, the failure rates looks good, it's high end tech and it will have more issues compared to old one. Unless we get a new report about failure, the current info points to a much more smoother launch than previous generations. I will hold my purchase of a PS4 until July-November 2014, like I did with Vita.

5 -  For me the problems isn't the lack of killer titles. When I buy a newly launched console I expect it to have only a few games and only 1 or 2 games of big franchises. You buy it because of the future promisses, it's a 5-7 year investment. For me, Wii U tried to focus on the 2 screens approach like it would change the world and it simply isn't a game changer. Even DS success isn't because of it, and that works much better when the 2 screens are close. My point is that Nintendo saw it as a killer feature, but nobody cared. Now they have 2 competitors that have a lot of horsepower, better features and online mode and aren't much more expensive.

"Forcing the Kinect upon consumers? Again, how could you defend that?"

Because there IS nothing wrong with that? It's part of the product Microsoft are selling and if you don't like that then you simply vote with your wallet. You can say the same for anything else really.

Until these companies start murdering kittens or actually doing something BAD, stop acting so fucking entitled.

Edit 2: oh i misread the post

I once claimed I would ditch playstation if they brought in a compulsory subscription fee.
but the way PS+ has turned out, I dont mind that sony are insisting people buy it.
with more PS+ subscribers, the games will only get better and better.
