Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Eiji Aonuma wants the next Zelda to provide “a unique experience that is beyond your expectations”

How about a spin-off zelda game where you actually play as zelda and not link. Wonder why the heck Nintendo call it Legend Of Zelda where the story revolve mostly on Link.

...Screws up this one? Had his fun experimenting? Poor by Zelda standards?

You do realize that he's only once made a mainline Zelda game with a lower score than a 90 on Metacritic, right? (If you consider Spirit Tracks - 87 - as mainline)

Skyward Sword is a 93.

Twilight Princess is a 95.

A Link Between Worlds is a 91.

Wind Waker (My favorite) is a flipping 96!

Need more?

Majora's Mask - 95.

Phantom Hourglass - 90

...And let's not forget the one that started his legacy - Ocarina of Time at an astounding 99.

Everything the guy touches is gold. Shigeru Miyamoto? No, Aonuma deserves way more credit. He had his fun experimenting!? HA! Experiment the hell away.

His newest games may not be your cup of tea, but they sure as hell are everyone elses.

And for the record, I personally think Skyward Sword and Wind Waker are better games than Ocarina of Time. Get at me.

Wind Waker is my all time favorite  game. I think Aonuma has the capability to do great work, but his vision for the Zelda series has sucked badly in my opinion.

Twilight Princess is my least favorite console zelda. It's boring, padded, slow, and feels like a retread.

Skyward Sword is almost worse than twilight princess. It has my two favorite dungeons in the Zelda series, but other than that it is not all that great.

The DS games are absolutely awful. Both of them are borderline unplayable.

That being said, I know that he can make good Zelda. Everything before Twilight Princess is god tier. ALBW is also pretty good so far. I do believe he can make a fantastic game, but a lot of his later work is poor.

Me too. It's a shame Aonuma hates us Zelda fans that prefer this. He also hated the SpaceWorld demo and the Zelda U E3 demo. The man will add nothing to Zelda but more niche artstyles and gimmicks. What is even more sad is that they were planning on releasing an HD version of Twilight Princess but scrapped it due to Aonuma favoring Wind Waker's artstyle.

NEVER FORGET!

Bold: I highly doubt that, because as the leader of everything Zelda nowadays he's responsible for those things. If he didn't want those things to be shown (or made in the first place) they wouldn't have been.

Italic: That's untrue.

If you read between the lines of Aonuma's recent interview, the future of Zelda is in for a turn for the worse.

Aonuma haters are ridiculous, what the hell?
It's not like he's done a bad game.

The SpaceWorld Demo was from before Aonuma was in charge.

The E3 2011 Demo wasn't.

EDIT: And that article also doesn't say anything about a supposed 'planning of TP HD that was cancelled in favor of WW HD', which is indeed untrue.

The sales of OoT and TP vs. the sales of WW and SS say enough about how the next Zelda should look. It's not like Nintendo has the comfort of Wii U being a runaway success, so they can do whatever they want ignoring the gamers. If they release yet another cartoony Zelda it will be the final nail in the coffin turning Wii U into a GCN2.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

My expectations are pretty dang low with everything Nintendo produces, so that won't be too hard. Just make a competent game that doesn't literally remove some of my favorite features and I'll be good.

Care to explain?

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Twilight Princess was atmoshperic, diverse, and feels like a new spin on dying clichés.

Skyward Sword is even better than Twilight Princess. It has great dungeons, a beautiful world, great sound design, best Zelda story yet, a feeling of grandeos adventure, and a compact world filled with content at every turn.

The DS games are without a doubt some of the best top down Zelda's in the series.

See how my opinion overrides yours as much as yours overrides everyone elses? That being, not at all? I'm not saying that yours is wrong, just that it's in the very very small minority.

Every main Zelda game is god tier. None of his later work is poor, says the masses.
