Forums - Sony Discussion - Blown away by PS4 ACIV. 1080p matters.

AC4 is very pretty in native 1080p, it does add a lot to the naval combat. However I'm one of the lucky bastards playing on a projector. Still I also saw a noticeable difference on the living room tv, everything is sharper, no more upscale blur filter.

Flower on ps4 blew me away with the 1080p upgrade. 2 days ago I had them running side by side, upscaled to 1080p on ps3 vs native 1080p. I don't want to go back now.

Dude I was blown away by COD 1080p. I can only imagine AC4.

Going back to last gen COD feels like I'm playing a pixelated mess. I have to say, the visuals just look so sharp on PS4, it actually helps me acquire targets much better at long range because of ALL DEM PIXELS.

I play a 100" projector, so it may be more obvious for me, but there was a huge difference

When we started using our PS4, we could get the PS4 update but no PSN so no AC IV update. My brother played through the first section and it looked decent, but not hugely impressive

I waited until the evening when everything was working properly and it was so much more impressive. I'm glad I waited 3 weeks for it

(Really great game by the way!)

So far AC4 sucks... Hey I am a pirate. Hey I want this 100 coin, and now I am an assassin. And we gotta get through more gay Animus stuff, like stop! Make the creed games just about the time period. Rename it "The Creed" or something if they can't get away from the same stupid assassin look. Anyways, it has fun combat, they shouldn't ruin it with a story no one cares about done in a "new" variation.

I did find that transition jarring, but I really think the game is just fun. I'm sure the story will come together in some vague way as I keep playing. But it's a great open world game... I'll take that

PS4 version of Assassin's Creed IV has received a 1080p patch and holy shit... it matters. The graphics are so crisp and detailed I can't help but think how much better this is than 720p presentation.

How come people can't notice this difference? It's absurdly better than 720p.

Bacause 90% of those people who own a HDTV's bought HDReady. HDReady TV's are capped at 720p. Many places in the world TrueHD is regarded as a luxury commodity, and since cable providers only offers 720p broadcasting they end up not caring too much about upgrading to TrueHD.

lol, no

there have been hardly any non "Full HD" TVs at stores around here for the last 3 or so years, those 90% only exist in your head

Ohreally. Lets take my parents as an example. They upgraded their CRT to HDReady in 2008. They mainly upgraded because it would look better in the living room(yeah, thats right). Then they bought a few more on fire sale in 2011. As did most other people at the time. You ask them if they feel the need to upgrade their HDreadyTV to FullHD today? Then they'll say: What? Sorry, but i think the telly we have look just fine. If they do upgrade, it'll be cause their current TV fail. Then when they go to the store, they will ofcource only find FullHD TV's since the HDReady stuff is discontinued.

So yes. The vast majority bought HDReady TV's when flatscreen TV's became fashionable. I am within the market segment that might care about 1080p versus 720p and maybe so are you. But we are the minority. Most people dont give a crap. How is it that you cant understand that, hm?

You guys are blown away by AC4? I think it looks average at best. Doesn't look nearly as good as Tomb Raider on PC which is just a port. I can't wait till these last gen ports go away.

@tuscaniman99: I'm pretty sure people are just saying they are blown away by the difference between AC4 in 1080p vs. it's last-gen 720p version.
On it's own it's clearly not really a next gen experience, the whole game is constrained to fundamentally fitting within lastgen constraints,
but still the graphical difference is noticeable by what the nextgen PS4 can achieve by 'turning up the detail dials' on a mostly lastgen game.

I think the only reason some people say it doesnt matter is because X1 surprised us by rendering games at 720p...

Before that EVERYBODY was on the 1080p Next gen train.

no, i always said that i see it on my tv because of the distance i sit to it but when i look at how my firends look at their tv they won't really see a difference with them sitting on the couch with a table and some extra space between their eyes and the tv in the living room. they would maybe see a little difference but wouldn't care.

and many people simply don't care about it. cod was the game with the worst resolution last gen and it is also the best selling franchise. and i never heard the cod fans in the games complaining about how the game doesn't look as crisp as the 720p games on the console. all they said was "woahh sooo awesome"

what i really would like to see once is if a gaming magazine would put 720p, 900 and 1080p versions of some pc games on different tv sizes with all other settings exactly the same and let some other people look on them from different viewing distances starting with a big difference and would have to say when they really have the feeling that one picture loks better as the other. they shouldn't know which tv has which version running so that they wouldn't have a clue before this test about what this even is about.

would be really interesting but all you ever get is a "i see no difference or you can see a difference" without even mentioning in which environment they tested it.

I'm speaking mostly about the gamers on our forums. A large majority of us were looking forward to 1080p @ 60FPS. I'm talking both 360 fans and PS3 fans...

Im pretty sure we were all united in the want and need for 1080p @ 60FPS.

And now all of a sudden its "i see no difference". Lets just remember what demographic of gamers is on a gaming forum about sales...pretty hardcore guys. Guys who actually give a shit.

And yeah i agree with you there are guys that genuinely dont care and probably cant tell the difference but most do..or atleast that was the feeling i got in all the next gen expectation threads...of which there were many throughout the last two years.

I dont think we would be having this discussion if both X1 and PS4 gamers were running at 1080p and at a solid 60FPS.

There is no such thing as "TrueHD". That's nothing more than a marketing slogan to try an get people to buy TVs. Think about it. If 1080P is "full HD", then how can 4K be Ultra HD? By definition, you can't get fuller than full.

There is no cap on resolution apart from the human eye.

The resolution difference is really noticeable. When I changed from gaming on my 1280x1020 monitor to my full-HD TV like 2 years ago, it was amazing without any PC upgrade or similar.
