Forums - Sony Discussion - Blown away by PS4 ACIV. 1080p matters.

what res is the xbone version?

Probably 720p but don't quote me on that. I'm not sure.

I play a 100" projector, so it may be more obvious for me, but there was a huge difference

When we started using our PS4, we could get the PS4 update but no PSN so no AC IV update. My brother played through the first section and it looked decent, but not hugely impressive

I waited until the evening when everything was working properly and it was so much more impressive. I'm glad I waited 3 weeks for it

(Really great game by the way!)

I keep reading good things about it but after how hyped I was for AC3 and how disappointing it ended up being.   I'm skeptical about new AC games.

Do you recomend it ?

I do recommend it, despite never having played an AC game before I'm having good fun with it. I feel pretty free to do whatever I want. Feels like an open world game and I do missions whenever I want.

PS4 version of Assassin's Creed IV has received a 1080p patch and holy shit... it matters. The graphics are so crisp and detailed I can't help but think how much better this is than 720p presentation.

How come people can't notice this difference? It's absurdly better than 720p.

A lot of people don't game on big enough TVs to tell the difference. Poor bastards.

Yea, I mean, even PROFESSIONAL REVIEWERS were saying for some games that "1080p vs 720p" on PS4 x Xbone comparisons that it didn't matter. But after playing it at 1080p, I say it does matter and matters in a major way.

Any reviewer that says otherwise is flat out lying.

It matters when factoring in graphics to a score, but it doesn't matter as far as gameplay is concerned, which is the most important factor.

I understand that, to this date I can have great fun playing classics from the 90's.

However, when I read a review, I want to know the truth. I want to compare versions and choose to play the best version whenever I can. The impact in gameplay might not be there, but I'll always prefer to have the prettiest graphics as possible, gameplay being equal.

I think the only reason some people say it doesnt matter is because X1 surprised us by rendering games at 720p...

Before that EVERYBODY was on the 1080p Next gen train.

Its def not 720p it's far to crisp on X1. I believe I read somewhere it's 900p.

Then I think that, for all intents and purposes, unless an Xbox title has bonus content exclusive to that platform, your best best will almost always be PS4.

Bacause 90% of those people who own a HDTV's bought HDReady. HDReady TV's are capped at 720p. Many places in the world TrueHD is regarded as a luxury commodity, and since cable providers only offers 720p broadcasting they end up not caring too much about upgrading to TrueHD.

I still see 50" HD ready TVs advertised here. I thought 1080p was standard for TVs until I went looking for a new one a while back.

you've seen the light!

I did the same thing. I bought the game at launch but waited until I got a big 1080p tv (which was last night! Thanks Black Friday!)

Can't wait to fire up AC tonight.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Well people see the difference on their little computer screen and think that's how it would look on a big 50' TV...

Again, it really depends on how far away the player is from the display.

When I game on PC, my face is maybe 18" away and I can see how sharp everything is when rendered at 1920x1080.

For whatever reason, I find myself standing/sitting closer to the TV when the visuals are sharper. Maybe so I can see all that detail. If I sit back far enough, the secondary computer display I have in the same room actually looks bigger in perspective due to proximity and I lose all that fine detail.

Since I don't mind standing when I play as a member of the arcade generation, my thing when I'm really into a game is to stand about arm's reach away from the TV and then it really makes a difference. It's like sitting in front of a 1080p display when gaming on PC.

I guess it depends on where you live, because here in the US, this is 100% not the case.  Just about any TV above 40" is 1080p and with FIOS the broadcasts are in 1080p.
