Don't really see much reason, doesn't seem to be harming 3DS and most of the people buying them wouldn't want to spend the extra for one so they may as well just keep selling DS - so long as people are buying, why not?

I think the 2DS is brilliant and will continue DS sales for a long time. A lot of people have problems with the 3DS 3D effect and by releasing 2DS Nintendo has dealt with that and created better price points for the DS hardware.

DS only sells any worthwhile numbers in the US.

I forgot about that, interesting to see if 2DS kills off DS soon - given the backwards compatabilty and the low price, it doesn't seem too far-fetched

If the DS Lite was still in production, I'd say it could've had a good run for another couple years, I think the main problem is how enticing it is to just get a 2DS or regular 3DS for a step up of what, 40 USD?

I saw it first hand at a Wal-mart about a week ago...  A grandmother (I think) with a 10 year old kid...

The conversation went something like this:

Kid:  I would like the 3DS XL

Grandmother:  That is a little to expensive

Kid:  [Looks around] What about the 2DS? I won't use the 3D anyhow because I don't like it

Grandmother: [Looks at price] Is it as good?

Kid:  Yes, it plays all the same games but does not do 3D

Grandmother:  OK.  Let's get that one!
