Ye-no! I know, I know. Japan seemed to take a huge steeming dump on SM3DW, but NA seemed to take an alright liking to it. 240k plus opening (VGC numbers) doesn't seem all too bad. Especially when you compare it to SMG's opening of 520k+ and take into consideration that the Wii had a much larger userbase than the Wii U at the time. (For quite obvious reasons...) 

I would also like to point out that Japan seems to have a disdain for most 3D Mario games anyway, and basing this game's success over a FW number from Japan isn't very wise at all.

So I say no! No, SM3DW is not a steeming pile of flop. The kid still has some life in 'em. He has all of this Holiday to prove himself! Why don't you bullies pick on someone your own size? Something like the big flop that'll be Wii Fit U.

No, it is not a flop.
It's NA showing of 243k in two days isn't bad at all.

I'll bet many of the sales will be digital. I am considering going digital myself on this one.

In USA it did good, 240k vs 300k for 3D Land opening week
Japan not as much, 100k vs 340k for 3D Land opening week and Japan is very handheld centric these days
We dont know Europe numbers yet but 3D Land did 140k, as long as it does 60k opening week then it will be 400k+ in the big 3 territories so id say thats not bad

probably will try and get it in January :(
