Forums - General Discussion - Which side of your brain is more dominant? Left or Right?

66% right

Every true math oriented person should laugh at such "tests"... They are highly questionable.

You use your brain equaly 41% to 59%. Thats probably why I do some stuff left handed even though I write with my right hand

34% L 66% Right

Thing is about the hands, I was using a mouse with my right hand so some of the results are distorted a bit.

How are so many people scoring 53%-47%'s???? This test doesn't seem very indepth and probably isn't accurate at all.

That's probably because there is no such thing as a dominant brainside. Recent studies have already proven it is a myth.

I can believe that recent studies may have called the concept it into question but unless there an awful lot of recent studies conclusively proving that hemispheric dominance and hemispheric switching don't exist at all, all that would have happened is the weight of evidence may have shifted, typically the way in biological research.

The problem with the term is that there is often misunderstanding about what it means and the idea that people are almost permanantly using one side of their brain more than the other doesn't hold much water.  However, to my knowledge, the idea that there is frequent switching of hemispheric dominance of a short time scale is measurable through functional imaging, is testable, and can even be manipulated to improve performance on certain tasks associated with typically lateralised brain function.

It's been a long time since I studied this stuff so much may have changed, yet a quick search of literature shows that there is plenty of research going on interhemispheric switching / changes of hemispheric dominance.

The above may not mean much other than being a bit of fun i.e. the test is easily manipulated if you identify the analytical versus creative approach to answering the questions. I also agree that the idea of a fixed dominant brain hemisphere is not correct but one hemisphere is, at any given time, dominant over the other and this can have implications for how we complete certain kinds of tasks, such as those present in the questionairre.

Another fun question from the brain games series:

Which way is the bus going?

Young children guess this right all the time with no difficulty, think about there the doors are.

It depends. Is this bus from UK or Japan?

59% left, 41% right, if that's trustworthy. I tried not to cheat but it was pretty hard when I was analyzing the questions as I was answering them.

You just made me wonder, who here is left/right handed? I'm left handed.

I'm left-handed in the sense that I write using my left hand. Everything else, though, I do primarily using my right hand, although I can do pretty much anything besides writing with both hands. Of course my both hands aren't equally good at things without training.

I thought this whole theory about brain hemispheres have been largely discredited. Although it is true that certain low-level analytical faculties are to be found on your left hemisphere, while certain creative faculties exist in the right, it is not a simple case of saying "if you are a more analytical person, then your left side is more dominant". Your analytical abilities are in fact a function of both left-side and right-side processing, as is most other personal preferences and capabilities. Human behaviour is too complex to be linearly reduced to left/right brain functions.

81% left 19% right

But I had to cheat on one question: I can't close only one of my eyes. So I just picked the right eye.

Also the color-word-test doesn't really work for me. I have done this kind of test too often and never fail any of those (doesn't depend on whether I have to match the colors or the words; I just do what the tests asks me to do).

This test is a joke.

I'm supposed to have my left brain underpowered and right brain overpowered, and it told me it was balanced lolz.
