1st of all, GC wasn'ta faliure. it was profitable enough for it to be a succes.
2nd, i wouldn't have done it anyother way. the Wii was a huge home run.

They need to cut the shit and stop using random proprietary media, and just use DVDs or Blu-rays instead--full-sized ones, not that mini-disc. They need a box that's going to compete with the 360 and PS3 in specs to avoid losing market share, in terms of both raw technical power and online functionality. And if they aren't willing to do that, they risk being knocked out of the hardware market entirely.

Bring back that scrapped embedded screen idea for the Gamecube controller. Take advantage of high definition capable graphics cards.

Launch the system with a a (simultaneous) release of New Super Mario Bros for DS and the new system alongside an updated Wind Waker the next year. Follow up with the Gamecube's biggest smash hit: Pikmin.

As far as I know, Nintendo themselves considered it a failure, which is why they took such a different route with the Wii.

It may have made them profit, but I think the leadership in the company wasn´t happy at all with the system´s performance in the market.
