Forums - Sony Discussion - Vertical lines seen while playing Assassin's Creed IV on PS4?

Not sure if this is an issue with the PS4 itself and instead and issue with the game, but when playing Assassin's Creed IV there are times when I can see very faint vertical lines running through the screen. I mainly see these running through my character and usually when I am sitting ~3 feet from the TV. Mind you I do not see them all the time. I have yet to notice them while moving about with the ship, just sometimes when I am walking around in towns.

Does this sound more like an issue with Assassin's Creed IV and not a PS4 issue?

I will try and take a screen grab of it later, but my TV is taken over right now for the Thanksgiving Day parade.

Let's hope its just the Animus... Don't have my copy yet, so I can't help you, sorry

NEXT GEN scanlines YAY! (next gen because retro was horizontal)

TBH seems to be some kind of GPU problem  not the game as far as I know.  I mean there would be other reports of stuff like this happening in AC if that would be a game bug.

So it seems like it is some kind of design choice that puts load on the GPU and yours seems to have a problem dealing with it.   But thats just a guess.

EDIT: If its the console then it already is broken  so you should stresstest it  try to find a place where those lines appear and stay there if the lines get worse its certainly the hardware. I could not find anything about that for AC on PS4  but lines and artifacts are signs of a damaged GPU.  Also try different HDMI inputs and cables sometimes stuff like that is just cable/connection problem.

Thing is that is doesn't run through out the entire screen, I can only notice is sometimes when I am standing still in a town, but not always when standing in that town.

For example, I was in a town called Nassua when I first noticed it. I was standing still in an area with trees and of course I immediately starting thinking something was wrong with my game, so I started walking around to see if it changes, but it wouldn't. However when I moved to a different area of the town I no longer saw them. This was within a span of like a minute.

as an aside can any other long-standing ps3 owners clarify this for me...

I have an old phat PS3 (lovely thing it is) and I have recently noticed "sparkling" pixels on the screen sometimes quite heavy (on turning on for instance), but usually quite faint... is it finally on its way out or is the problem perhaps with the HDMI cable?

Multi colored sparkling?(Green red?)  If yes probably dying console.  If its more like snow (white-ish) then its most likely an HDMI problem.

Move around the HDMI cable when its plugged in and TV and PS3 are turned on.  If nothing changes then its not the cable itself.  It might be your TVs HDMI input (try to change that) or the PS3's output.

Try using different cables   the composite ones or component/scart etc.   If it vanishes its just an HDMI problem (some PS3s just get a broken HDMI port after some time but the rest still works)

Still trying but having trouble getting it to pop up again and since that time when I saw it I believe I have disconnected and reconnected the HDMI cable.

I will continue to try and make it happen again. Going to go back to the place where I first noticed it.

Edit - Have to keep taking over the TV during commercials to try and get this issue to pop up and I actually got it to show up for a split second while moving around but it instantly vanished.

Sigh... whatever. Just gonna keep on playing and once I get moved into my new house i'll just give Sony a buzz and get it replaced if this turns out to be a hardware issue. I still have it under the 1-year warranty and this "issue" is barely even noticable to begin with unless I am looking for it.

I had some similar problems, but it turned out that it was caused by my 200hertz TV because i used a wrong setting.
Cinema mode instead of game mode
I reduced it to 100 hertz and went to game mode.

Id say:
First compare this game with other games, other settings and if possible on another tv and different hdmi-ins.

edit: in my case it was AC2 on ps3( AC2 was the only game i had this problem with)

As of now this is the only game I have seen this on and as I have mentioned this "issue" is not there all the time and right now I am having trouble making it happen again. My TV is also set to "Game mode" and my TV is only 60hz (Getting an upgrade soon).

When my ps3 died it just did that earlier, I guess you have little time, make her rest a bit and search about this.

Have you ever changed thermal paste and cleaned the PS3? You may find useful also buying one of those PWM fan accelerator found on ebay, the temperature inside drops significantly if set at 50% (about 15-18degrees celsius LESS) I've heard PS3 FAT goes up to 90°Celsius that is a lot (100°C boils water), my slim went to 70° but accelerating the fan I only get about 50°C. I also saw some guy making a hole under the ps3 fat right where the fan is, it might work too, but be sure to clean the console and apply new silver thermal paste, but a very thin layer and be sure to apply extra pressure bending the holding brackets a bit to get rid of the bubbles between chip and heatspreader. Also your ps3 big heat spreader contact surface might not be 100% plain, this was not rare on some ps3 fat and was the first cause of failure. Take your time reading guides about this!
Have a nice day. Sorry for not being able to say something about the PS4.
ps:there is also another layer of thermal paste UNDER the internal heat spreader (che thing with CELL and RSX written on, the actual chips are under that), I DON'T recommend to change that unless those things can be removed very easily with bare hands, otherwise avoid, it will be hard as hell!). There are a ton of guides on the net for this.

Persona 5 on PS3, I won't need next gen!
