Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Counter To All The Negative Wii U Threads In 1 Place

You should change the thread title and say OFFICIAL AND ONLY WIIU DOOM THREAD.

And every other one should be deleted and every person opening a new one should be b*nhammered xD

Same should apply for VITA etc. All those annoying threads are cancer and should vanish. 1 is more than enough and if the post limit is reached then open thread 2.

Please mods make this happen! 1 DOOM thread per console or better per manufacturer/dev (so we have even less crap here)

1. Nintendo to discontinue the Wii U:  This is never gonna happen and anyone that things it will obviously was not around when Sega left the hardware bussiness.  It makes no sense for Nintendo to drop the Wii u because they'd lose all trust from the consumer and no one would buy their next system also Nintendo has way more than enough money to whether the storm of one bad console, especially considering they have another console, the 3DS, selling amazing.  Also ITS ONLY BEEN 1 YEAR and people are already saying they are gonna drop support, oh ya just ignore the Wii U's 2014 lineup destroys the PS4's and X1's.

2. Wii U will sell less than the Gamecube:  I can't believe anyone actually thinks this, but lets think about this logically.  The Wii U managed to sell 4m units in 1 year with terrible first party support, now the Gamecube only managed to sell 21m units...anyone that thinks the Wii U won't easily reach 21m is crazy.  Nintendo is releasing a huge lineup of first party games next year and Nintendo tends to save 1 or 2 games to reveal at E3 and release for holiday season, this year will probably be Zelda U or Miyamoto's new IP or both, add those to SSB, MK8, X, Bayonetta 2, Yoshi Yarn, Donkey Kong TF, and SMT x FE anyone that thinks the Wii U will sell less than 10m next year, which is half the total GC sales, is crazy.  If it can sell 4m in this year with that terrible support it can easily sell 10m next year with that huge lineup.

3. Wii U will be a failure:  So the Wii U won't manage to sell the numbers that the PS4 and X1 will I think we can all agree on that, but IT DOESN'T NEED TO.  Nintendo does not have as much invested into the Wii U as Sony and Microsoft have in the PS4 and X1, they don't have a billion servers or w/e so they don't need to sell as much units to be a success.  I'd say if they manage to sell 30-40m Wii U's they can easily pull a profit off it and it would be considered a success for them.

So are we done with all these dumbass threads?

1) There are plenty of ways Nintendo could save consumer goodwill if they dropped the Wii U in 2014. If Nintendo came out and said our 2014 titles will be the last games released for Wii U, but hey they'll be free digitial downloads for all Wii U owners I think most owners would give them the benefit of the doubt. Also, most of us Wii U owners are long time Nintendo fans who wouldn't stop loving the company just because they had a bit of a flop. I bet most Virtual Boy owners still buy Nintendo products.

You also are misunderstanding how business works if you think shareholders will just let the company throw away good money after bad because they can. Yes, they technically could afford to support a flop but this is a publically traded company who have a legal responsibility to their shareholders to maximise profit.

I'm not even going to touch the 2014 line up comment. Sure it looks good to us as Nintendo fans but Wonderful 101 was one of my favourite games of all time and look how that turned out.

2) It would be totally fair to assume Wii U will sell less than Gamecube at this point. The Gamecube is currently well ahead in sales as has already been pointed out.

There has been absolutely nothing from Nintendo to suggest either Zelda, FExSMT or Yoshi are coming out next year. DK was delayed into February because of a massive hole in the release schedule so this should tell you there isn't a "huge" lineup for 2014. I don't think anyone is expecting Bayo 2 and X to do too much in excess of 500k (and I'm being generous there). Mario Kart and Smash Bros. are the only major titles we know about for next year and these are games that were also available on the Gamecube. Smash's system selling potential will be further reduced by the fact that it's on 3DS as well.

3) I agree Nintendo don't need to 'win' the generation to maintain a healthy profit and market share. But they need to do a LOT better than what they are doing. If they continue along this path they are going to drive their IP's into irrelevancy. And when it comes down to it, Nintendo is entirely reliant on its IP.

So no, I hope we aren't done with the discussions about the Wii U. Sticking your head in the sand and banning discussion is exactly what WON'T help Nintendo through this period. This is a site about sales and it is entirely fair that the Wii U is being criticised. It's sales are something we haven't seen since the Virtual Boy. Try not to take the awful sales personally and if it's really bothering you go play some Wonderful 101 and console yourself with the fact that billions of people are missing out on such a masterpiece

Wii U has already sold 5 times as much as Virtual Boy's final total.

In your opinion it is, like everything in the OP. Basically unless people agree with you that WIiU is fine you don't want people posting threads.

There is difference between intelligent discussion and certain members creating WiiU threads just for the purpose of flamebait.

Somebody is in denial.  This thread reminds me of the Iraqi information minister.

I didn't even have to create the caption on this image.  Somebody already did it.

Which am I in denial about?  You think Nintendo is gonna cut support or the Wii U will sell less than the GC?

In terms of exclusives yes, in terms of sales no.

Let's look at your 3 points.

1. You said Nintendo will "never" discontinue the Wii U.  Obviously that's not true, because they will discontinue it some day.  So I'll assume you meant they won't discontinue it early.  I'm pretty sure the Wii U will be discontinued before, say ,the PS4.  If you meant something different by this, please say so.  I do, however, agree with your claim that Nintendo has money to weather the storm of one bad console.

2. You said Wii U will easily sell more than the Gamecube.  I'm not convinced.  It might, it might not.  You then said that "anyone who thinks the Wii U will sell less than 10m next year.. is crazy".  It's going to be hard pressed to sell more than 10m next year.  Although if they deliver the software, I might be one of those +/- 10 million.

3. "Wii U will be a failure" - You say it won't be.  I think failure is a subjective term.  They'll eek on a variable profit because of software sales, but I don't think they'll make much money on it.  I don't know how much they spent on development of the console.  Since you agree that it won't lead the generation is unit sales, we don't need to discuss that definition of success.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Nintendo guy too.  I've owned almost all of their consoles, from the NES to the Wii.  But I'm realistic about the Wii U.  I don't love what Nintendo did with it, and I think we need to challenge Nintendo to do better.  I also just like to make predictions, regardless of my preferences - and it's difficult to prevent good fortune for the Wii U.

Ya when I said they wouldn't cut support I meant they would support it for the average length that a Nintendo console is supported, I don't think it will be supported as long as the PS4.

With them coming out with their biggest system sellers all in one year (considering Zelda U comes out, even if it doesn't there's still a lot of games) its basically the same strategy they used for the 3DS where they bombard people with must have exclusive over and over and it shifts people over to their console.  I know people think, just because it happened with the 3DS doesn't mean it will happen for a home console, but I think it will.  Also they are the only next gen console coming out with exclusive games targeted at the Japanese market in 2014 (correct me if I'm wrong) so I can see them picking up traction in Japan.

Ya when I said it won't be a failure is just that it makes Nintendo money, not that it sells the most or anything like that.

No point in trying to be positive about the Wii U. Nothing can save the sinking ship, we just have to accept it!

The faster we accept, the less it will hurts.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

People say the PS3 was a failure, because it sold less than PS2 and lost market share. So by that logic, Wii U is a failure if it sells less than Wii and gets a smallee market share. amiright?
