No. They need to maintain consumer confidence in their products. Simple as that. They will support it probably as long as they did the Gamecube.

Just sayin', I was at kmart the other day and they had no Wii Us in stock. that's what brought me to make this thread.
I wonder if these threads will get discontinued soon. Gives the site a very childish look.

How is this comparable? Ipad / Tablets don't have actual buttons for input. The games aren't comparable. Not a real alternative, unless poorer games is the tradeoff to not paying 299.99... wait.
What do you think? Will the Wii U get discontinued in a couple years similar to dreamcast? |
Sega ran out of money. They may been able to turn it around, but who knows. Nintendo won't be able to turn this ship around, but it won't be due to running out of money.
-Same or even less 3rd party support than the GameCube |
True. Long term the droughts will be more pronounced than the worst of the Wii's lifecycle. This is discouraging.
-Each Wii U is sold at a loss while the Wii was sold for profit |
Eventually the Wii U will be sold for a profit. But this is hardly a reason to discontinue a console. Loss leaders is not new in this industry (although new to Nintendo).
-Even if the system was cheaper I don't think anyone would buy it, it doesn't have that casual feeling the Wii did |
The phrase you're looking for is broad - game appeal. The Wii U doesn't have it. Or, it's getting lost in the mixed message Nintendo is presenting.
-Does not play DVDs or blue rays so price can be justified |
Annoying, but it does have free online + streaming services.
Yes
simply because so many people are angry about the question.
Will they really?
No!
1) They'd become the new Microsoft in terms of hate and shitstorm if they do so.
Their reputation would be damaged and the damage would be much bigger than the expected 100-200 millions in annual losses.
2)As pachter said.Nintendo can make 100 million loss each year for the next 30 years without getting in any trouble as they have the money.
Nintendos biggest mistake:
They have missed the balance between 3ds & Wii U games releases.
They have released too many similar games in a too short timespan and missused marios name too often=fatigue guarantied&failed to create new ip's whilesome old new ip's(kawashima)lost momentum.Right now just playing the old:Monster Hunter,Pokemon ,Mario,Zelda-game.
It's a little bit like MS with gears, halo, forza again and again but nintendo does so on 2 systems=accelerated fatigue, with older ip's.
They should have called the system Wii2.
Soccer Mom won't buy a clumsy non-sexy nintendo ipad-like Wii add on for 250+ as she does not know that this is not just a Wii add on but a new system.People, even casuals, are used to numbers when they buy consoles or smartphones!

Ummmm?..... Isn't that a good sign? SM3DW just came out. So if your Kmart had 3-5 on store shelves, now they are all gone

No. The fact I had to write those letters with regards to another one of these "threads" is really rather depressing. Find something new to hate on, alright guys?
