There are these cool things called reviews, demos, and renting. Hopefully digital renting becomes an option.

So what if I read a review, they say this game is "awesome", then I buy it and don't like it? That's just the price I pay for just dealing with it and giving up my "obsolete" disc?

Seriously dude, you need to understand how ridiculous you sound right now. I am almost at the point where I believe you're just trying to mess with me.

That or you're seriously unwilling to admit there is an issue here and instead just try to dimish the perk of having physical media and full ownership rights. Why that is though I wouldn't know.

No I'm not messing with you. Discs are stupid IMO.

I just imagined how these install time will go on PS4 after some HDD upgrade

Seems like xbox one is gonna be the next dreamcast ?

Hey, whatever floats your boat.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

The difference is enormous but I dont think it really matter, its a one time installation. Even if it was 30 minutes I would still think its not a problem. Just start it and do something else for those minutes, its a one time deal. That being said, its ironic that the PS3 received so many negative critics on this aspect. Hopefully, people who thought this was a big deal are still of the same opinion.

Both are better than my PS3 so I wouldn't be upset with the Xbox One unless I also had a PS4.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

We tested six multiplatform games on both consoles and every time, the PS4 was under a minute while the Xbox One install was several minutes long and required downloading an update before beginning the installation.

If there is an update for a PS4 game, how is this handled? Does it download in the background while the game is installing? Or does it allow you to play the game while the update is being downloaded?

"On PS4, after inserting a disc, you'll be shown a progress bar that ends when you're able to launch the game, and if there's a day-one update, it downloads in the background, and you can install it when you want to play online or whatever the case may be for that update."

Same as xbox one.

Not according to the article.

Strange, I've heard that the game installs are quite fast from people I know who own the Xbox One. I wonder if Kotaku has a problem with their Xbox One.

Kotaku tested only Multiplatform games... not first-party.

That's so a direct comparison could be made. I believe Forza 5 had a mandatory 6gb patch before able to launch?

Shouldn't be using discs in the first place. Physical media is archaic. Going digital the rest of this gen. So it takes me 1 second to switch to another game while you have to get up, open case, grab disc, eject previous disc, insert new disc, put other disc away. Thanks but no thanks physical media needs to die right with Gamestop.

The vast majority of gamers disagree with you.

They will come around. Once you go digital you can't go back. Would you go back to CDs after MP3s? Same thing.

Yes. The sound quality of MP3 sucks ass. Seriously. Get yourself some decent headphones and you will notice instantly. So the way to go for me is ripping FLAC from CDs. Because on EVERY fucking streaming service or on Amazon or whatever you only get shitty MP3 or AAC for your money. Only on iTunes you get SOME things in ALAC. But iTunes sucks in general. So for everybody who gives a crap about quality, CD is still the way to go, especially SACD.

Discs are not a thing of the past. Internet is still not available or slow as fuck in most regions of the world. Discs won't be obsolete until connections with 50 MBit/s or more are a standard. So not before the year 2030 or something. But even then, there will still be people who will want discs. And as long as there is demand, the medium is not dead.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

that was standby.

There are something wrong... the cold boot is ~20s... the Standby is less than 5s.

Cold boot to main dashboard –
PS4: 20 seconds — Xbox One: 1 minute 5 seconds
Standby/hibernate to dashboard –
PS4: 3 seconds — Xbox One: 12 seconds

Using your times... 5s (Standby) + 18s (Load Killzone to play)... 23s total

Yeah but it's still not suspend/resume mode. It's not the same loading a checkpoint than start playing at the exact spot you left last time. Especially on a game with bad checkpoints, like I heard Killzone has. I want that suspend/resume mode and it should be priorized by Sony.

After all, they bragged about this feature at the very first reveal of the console and it was one of the feature I was most looking forward to having, besides the ability to watch a friend play or let a friend take over my controller in my game over PSN. Another feature which is not implemented yet.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey
