Rumour: Fallout: New Vegas Writer Working on Guerrilla Games' PS4 RPG

Posted Wed 27th Nov 2013 07:00 by Sammy Barker

What are you hiding in there?

Helgasp

Since before the beginning of time, Dutch developer Guerrilla Games has been rumoured to be working on an open world role-playing game for the PlayStation 4 – and now a new hire at the company has put that speculation into overdrive. The first-party studio has snapped up Fallout: New Vegas’ lead writer John Gonzalez, suggesting that the company really is aiming to explore a new genre with its second next generation project.

According to the abovementioned veteran’s Linked In profile, the recruit’s specialities include “narrative design, dialogue systems, creative writing, documentation, [and] voice direction”. So basically, this guy is good at everything that his employer historically has a hard time with. “My focus is storytelling for open world RPGs,” his online resume continues. Sounds like a perfect fit for the rumours, huh?

Gonzalez was only employed in September, so the studio’s next title may still be some way off. Still, we don’t think that the company would hire a writer with such specific credentials if it wasn’t working on some kind of open world RPG. Assuming that the company can finally nail a decent narrative, this could end up being spectacular. The art direction in Killzone has always been incredible – and we can’t wait to see what the developer does with a different setting.

People asked for new and better writers....Guerrilla Games is listening!!

Definitely a big deal if true. The writing for the games that Guerrilla makes has never been that good. Bad pacing, dull characters, and lacking plot points. It's pretty much their biggest weakness. What has me even more excited is that the indications and rumors of their next game being an open-world RPG keep growing. This may be the real change of pace they needed. Not trying to alter their existing work but rather going for something completely different.

Holy shit that'd be great. Fallout New Vegas had the best writing of any WRPG in a long long time.

This RPG is now on my radar.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

Its good they conquer a new genre(for them) and hire good people for it.
The variety of genres the developers of Sony are allowed to do is just great.
We will see a lot of awesome things on the PS4

cant wait to see what they are working on. they have confirmed they been working on a new IP in march 2012, so they have been busy working on this game for a while now. im not a big fan or RPG's but i have high hopes ill like this one since GG making awesome set pieces of epic battles. i wonder what this game will be like, is it in the vein of skyrim/witcher? or mass effect? maybe a post apocalyptic game like fall out? anyways this will be interesting

Really interested in the new Ip, but the new vegas writers aren't incredible or anything.

Huge if true, Fallout New Vegas had fantastic writing. Obsidian blew Bethesda out of the water.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

For fans of Killzone, a Killzone that plays like XCOM would be awesome.

Interesting, let's wait and see though

It might be several years away, it might not be true and it might be bad

Let's just wait
