Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NY Times: "Wii U is the only new console with a game worth playing."

So GTA5 and Battlefield 4 are "big boy games?" Thanks for the info...tho I do always do enjoy reading posts by the "HARDCORE GAMERS"...LOL We all know despite having an amazing level of gameplay which includes ingeneous CRAFTSMANSHIP, a game cannot be great unless its full of violence and guns...right?

"The console "no one should want to own?" Probably the most narrow-minded post I have read in a while...good job.

Yes, that´s the paradigm the industry has right now, and that the terrible so-called "video game journalism" insists in demand. Realistic graphics, violence, guns and shooting. If a game doesn´t have it, it doesn´t deserve attention

This paradigm is going to kill the industry. I mean, it´s already killing the industry

Too bad it took Nintendo a year to come out with it. It actually does look great, but if one worthwhile game a year and minimal 3rd party support is to be expected of the Wii U, there's still no point in me buying one.

One worthwhile game in 1 year? While this year was limited, if we go from Nov 2012-2013: SMBU, ZombiU, Scribblenauts Unlimited,Lego City , Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends and SMB3DW were all great games. Next year looks absolutely stellar  with DKC, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, X, Bayonetta 2, Yarn Yoshi, Possible New Zelda, and whatever else they are going to announce!

2012: Lego City Undercover

2013: Super Mario Brothers 3D World

2014: X (IF it's actually worthwhile) and DKC (almost guaranteed to be amazing)

Nope. My statement still holds true for me. For diehard fans though, I see your point about 2014.

I dont want to be a bore, but a small correction: Lego City Undercover was launched in March, 2013.

And now being a bore, I disagree. All games indicated by Nirvana are excellent and worth the system. But that´s just personal opinion. No need to argue about that.

You're right. That means nothing worthwhile came out in 2012.

While NSMBU was not the best mario game, it was still quite stellar and did you take the time to try out ZombiU?

" Rebellion Against Tyrants Is Obedience To God"

Still can't help but think that Nintendo should have released SM3dW next week instead of going head on against Xbone and PS4.

Obviously they have far more experience in this industry than I do so who am I to advise them what to do but I can't help but think it is a bit silly.

I believe that Nintendo, unlike many people think, isn´t really trying to compete with Sony and MS. That´s why they didn´t bother launchin SM3D World (and Zelda ALBW, Mario Party Island Tour) on the same week of Xbox1 launch

I think we all should give some credit for Nintendo in insisting in treating videogames as a social entertainment experience rather than an individual one. Then their focus on family and multiplayer games and few online features.

The paradigm that the industry insists in working today - and reinforced by the dumb "videogame journalism" is just about mature content, big-budget AAA titles and online multiplayer, that is to say, the industry focus the individual experience rather than the group experience.

I know some will say: "playing online is also a social experience", but the focus here is mostly competition, not gathering people together. Online multiplayer is and will never bring the same experience as local multiplayer.

I fear that this duality of approaches is killing the industry slowly, because neither seems to be attracting new consumers.

But they did. And they released SM3DW in europe the same day as the ps4 launch. Maybe your phrasing of the sentence means the opposite of what it reads.

Sony, MS and Nintendo are in the gaming industry so rather you want it or not they are in competion. I agree that to a certain extent they offer a different gaming experience.

Whatever way you spin it, at the end of the day they are all after people's money. Someone that just got paid with money to spend on one console on this day now have a choice. A true life scenario:

"I wanted to get the wii u and SM3DW but the whole hype around the PS4 today made it seem a better buy so I got that for my son instead".

Not the exact words used but the point remains the same.

If consumers are mostly interested in in short term software value (which they are not), people will consider PS3 or 360 over Wii U, like they did this whole year. They are cheaper than Wii U, yet on pair tech wise, they have better online infrastructure with a lot more active users and communities, have 100x bigger libraries comapred to Wii U, better HDD options, PS3 also has a free online and can read blu ray discs, so

And they are... GTAV sold almost 14million copies so far. You agree with me but just prefer to praise the PS or XB consoles. Yes, people buy games that are good, rule of thumb.

What does GTA (a game, software) have to do with a PS4/Xbone (machines, hardware) ??? That comparisson really preplexes me. Consoles are an investment, a single video game is not

The wiiu isn't even a new console. Flamebait title is flamebait.

Uhh...what?

PS4 is on market for less than 2 weeks and X1 isn't even out for a full week yet and already you say they are not able to attract new consumers. So ps4 fans in NA alone were enough to create a single biggest launch in VG history?  Damn, imagine how big EU launch is gonna be

Every console has the biggest launch in history because the industry is growing even the Dreamcast had one

Except for 360, Wii, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, PSV and Xbone...

, launch sales are the early adopters and people who would of got one regardless of what's said and what they hear because they are fans of the brand. Regarding your bet Sony have already pretty much confirmed their shipments until the end of Q1 will not meet what you're expecting it to sell, even if it was sold out every week it wouldn't reach the sale's you're predicting as the U will have to stay stagnant on 4m for 4 months for the to be any chance as anything over 4m it simply won't be outsold, believe it or not the majority of shipments for Q1 comes from the launch period.

PS4 should easly be at 3-3.5 million by the end of the year, it should outsell the Wii U by the end of February as I predicted.

This is why we never base things on launch but more what happens towards the end of the launch year.

You don't have to do too much thinking to see PS4 will obliterate Wii U this gen
