Is the PS3 a success?

Yes 214 64.46%

No 67 20.18%

Maybe 26 7.83%

No idea 3 0.90%

See results? 19 5.72%

Total:329

On balance yes it was a success. But a qualified success given a lot downsides to the early part of the generation.

For Sony, it's clearly a loss : it didn't obliterate like the PS2 did and lost soooo much money.

Nevertheless, from gamer's point of view, it was a success ; it has the best library of games of the 7th generation.

Nope, huge failure. Only 80 million units sold and likely to get a abysmal 100+ million units sold life-time.

(facepalm) Dumb question..

It looks like you didn't understand the question. I was refeering to whether it was a success financially and commercially. If you look at how much market share they have lost, then it could be considered a failure.

Don't facepalm when you don't understand the question lol I doubt you even bothered to read the first post.

There is no correct answer It is and it is not. It depends on your point of view.

For fans it certainly is because they buy every system from Sony no matter what. So numbers dont really mean alot to them just the games. And tbh the PS3 has an excellent library.

For objective people and I am pretty sure even Sony it is not. Because it lost to Nintendo and most importantly to the former newcomer Microsoft. (the PS3 has now sold more than the 360 but the fact that it took SO long and that the Xbox went from 24m to 80m shows what I mean) Now 7 years are over and the PS3 sits at 80m. 70m less than the PS2.

If the PS3 will be lucky it will reach 120m which would still be 30m less than the PS2. (but I highly doubt it will reach 120m because it took the console 7years to reach 80m while it was new fresh and totally hyped with a at least 5 years of blockbuster games. How will it reach another 40m when its "old" and probably no Sony games will come out in 2015+? Sony has to kill the PS3 to avoid having a Sony own competitor to the PS4 system.

Sony's PS3 is basically the only loser this gen.

So again it depends on what one defines as a success.

P.S. I went with maybe. Because everything else is just opinion not fact.

Sony is in the movies and music industry, so it's not just about its small share on BD royalties, but also about not depending on a standard owned also by a competitor in one of its biggest business divisions. Not to mention that MS owns the main implementation of interactive contents in HD-DVD, MS would have used it as a trojan horse to put a small Windows CE subsystem in almost every multimedia player, increasing its power a lot, and extending it to a new market. BD victory instead gave this power to Java, not a direct Sony victory, but hated by MS because it's an obstacle for its IT world domination plans.

Success is a very interesting topic do to the fact that what one person considers a success another might not. But I voted yes. Basically as a total gaming machine it is a success. It makes/made Sony some profit so it is a success.

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

They provided us with great games and hardware at their own expense. Because that wasnt enough they gave up PS+
