Well sales wise 360 lost. But I'd say PS3 lost since they went from 150+ million and utter domination last gen to 80 million and pretty much a tie for 2nd this gen.

The 7th generation ain't over with the start of the 8th generation.

1/4 of the PS2 sales happened AFTER the PS3 launch, so please don't compare 150 million PS2 to 80 million PS3.

Compare ~115 million (PS2 sales until PS3 launch) to 80 million (PS3 sales until PS4 launch) or wait a few years... they will sell many millions of PS3s the next years.

if you can't look at the numbers and tell that it was the Wii, no matter whether it hurts your soul or not, you've got some kind of brain problem.

It's like having Italy winning the Fifa World Cup championship and then asking who won it... it was fucking Italy. It scored more and outgoal'd everyone.

Wii sold more units and software than any of the other two. Deal with it. Forever :p

You can score more and "Out Goal" Everyone and still lose. ;)

Profit: Wii, 360~PS3

Sales: Wii, PS3~360

So Wii wins PS360 loses.

PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

I think it's fair to say that for the most part, the current total userbase for the PS3/360 is pretty much a 50/50 split between former PS2 enthusiasts, however. Most post-gen adopters don't really have a profound attachment towards the whole "1 system per gen" ecosystem.

You're right about that...but I was speaking more about the utter domination of market share. What did PS2 have, like 80% market share or something ridiculous? Even if PS3 makes its way to 110 million or so, that's still only something like 30-40% marketshare which is a huge loss from last gen.

Wii won the numbers game but ultimately lost the generation. They alienated many core gamers with their focus on motion and casual gaming and now they are paying for it on the Wii U...

PS3 lost during the start of the gen as they were over priced and too cocky coming in... But they are finishing strong which has paid dividends for PS4 and gen-ending sales of PS3.

X360 stayed steady for the first half of the gen. But they finished the gen with weak exclusives and X1 is paying for it a bit (along with gamer's perceptions on the DRM issue).

Nobody lost this gen though, thats why we cant decide. Its the closest gaming will ever be

lol what a way to spin it, Xbox made no profit on the console with freaking 80 million sold units, Sony lost it's dominance and lost basically all their PS 2 money and more. Their work on Ps 1, Ps 2 was completely useless when it comes to money.

comparing 5th, 6th and 7th gen. sony.
8th will be different though

i'd say wii lost if you look at the level of excitement to pick up the successor for each system the wii has fell flat on it's face. while both MS and SONY have made customers more excited to continue. basically they took a shit load of nintendo fans to their respective sides.

^Yes that's me ripping it up in the GIF. :)

PS360 sales are neck and neck (360 still ahead AFAWK) but it lost a significant amount more money, so PS3 lost.

I don't have any stake in these companies so whether they made or lost money is no concern of mine. What it comes down to is the games, and games quality was PS3, 360, then Wii. So Wii lost. Regardless which gen we're talking about, the amount of quality games are all that matters to me.
