Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo to drop the bomb 7/12-2013 ?

the problem with VR is that it really only works with first person games.....I mean what's the point for it in a third person game?
And btw I don't think it will be really big for casuals. I'm not interested in the slightest because my favourite genres are all played better in third person.

Doubt it. I expect their VGX thing to be something quirky like a real life super smash bros. match with people cosplaying the characters.

Lets say they do show it.. do you think Wii-U Would get attention and better sales

First off, it's not happening.

In some alternate world if it did though, they'd use the same tech as streaming to two gamepads so that the VR headset could be 3D. However this would take a lot of additional processing power. Devs supporting this feature would make the game run at gamepad resolution and have the TV just display the left eye's upscaled image. It would be cool since non players could still watch the game.

Support would be very bad though. Most games that support it would be sp games that work fine with off tv play. Devs would probably have to build the game twice though, similar to Uncharted 3. Naughty Dog built a 2D game and a 3D game. Wii U devs would have to build the standard 2D game and the 3D vr game. Not going to be worth it for the few 3rd parties still making Nintendo games, and I doubt first party games will support it unless they are built from the ground up for the experience.

You also need to think about the competition. Oculus rift is out there for PC guys and 9/10 times would offer the better experience with HD graphics and 60fps. I am not saying Sony is or isn't making their own VR headset for PS4, but in this alternate universe that Nintendo did it let's assume Sony did it too. That'd really steal thunder from Nintendo since casuals would just buy the Sony headset for the system they already own instead of paying $500 for the wii u plus headset.

So even if they did do it, I'd think it'd be a very silly move.

Smash Bros with VR? Why would you ever play a third-person game with a VR set? If Nintendo was actually trying to position the Wii U as a VR console, Metroid Prime Trilogy HD would already be a thing.

You could be very right.. but it could also be a metroid game.. thats just some posible games.. mayby smash is not fit for VR..

But i would rather have people comment on if Wii-R is posible.. a logic next step for nintendo and if it will be "the bomb" if it came now.. :)

What do you think of zelda U or monster hunter in VR ?

I don't think of them at all, because neither are first-person. There's no advantage to having VR for those games.

The Wii U could probably handle VR pretty well. But truth be told, Nintendo has very few games that would benefit from the technology, so I doubt they would invest heavily into it.

VR is also very single-player focused, another reason I doubt Nintendo would be interested in it. The Wii U is only built to stream video to one GamePad at a time (two max), so suppose four people are playing Mario Kart together... and one of them is wearing a headset, unable to see or hear the other players. That's not happening.

Not sure if you understand what i mean.. let's take Mario 64.. you know we could get in "mario's head" and look around.. meaning if the controls was set to gyro instead, we could stand in Mario 64 and look around VR way.. So if Nintendo let us walk around in that mode (like they had just done with zelda HD) and use wii-motes to controll.. we are in a wii-r game.. same with zelda.. just let us in first person mode.. For me thats like one of the ultimate games for VR mode.. but okay, myaby you are not to big spiders.. :)

Thats right only 2 player.. (and others wait and watch the game on tv) but still this is the shit.. (i have tryed 2 player VR lokal multi player, and it's... wow) and there is also online.. Mayby only two player in mariokart in "Wii-R mode" but it's not imposiple that there could be 2 players on the tv.. in same game.. i mean we know it supports 1pad and 4 wii-mote/nunchuck in that game.

Not happening. No parent wants to come home and see their 10 year old wearing a giant helmet completely zoned out.

Besides Sony is already prepping VR for PS4 so it would be nothing new.

It will not be 3d.. only the same streaming power used like in upad (there are not 3d in a VR set.. headtracking do the job)

Devs should not add that much.. it's still the same game.. just add a first person and gyro mode

The competition do not has Nintendo games.. and they do not have a optimized consol

And i give you that sony (and ms) will get it in few years.. but thats not what this tread is about..  :)

Oh no VR really only works if it's 3D. Every VR headset out there is stereoscopic 3D.

Nintendo isn't doing real VR, and they most definitly aren't doing haphazard VR.

Not true.. Try to see this video from 2007 where johnny lee make headtracking with the wii.. The point is that in the second you have a picture controlled by headtracking it apears in 3d.. and that is all nintendo needs.. But yes, what i'm talkin about is not a pro +1000$ vr helmet, but a cheap way to deliver VR.. Wii-R  :)

(that also means that the display don't have to big be a helmet)

Edit: ups.. sorry i see know that i wrote "in a VR set" should have been in this "kind of VR set"  sorry for that. :)  But still do you understand this way ?
