Forums - Sales Discussion - Should we be umimpressed with XB1's 1 million sales, or super amazed with PS4 sales?

Tagged games:

Well the microsoft stores in europe are all sold out and have been for weeks. I imagine you are lying about the us websites and stores as well as all the press reports are saying its sold out IN NA.

We are not talking about the odd outlet in the middle of Alaska here though.

Before anyone gives me shit, let me start off by saying that the 1 million sales in 24 hours by the XBone is quite impressive, but hear me out here. The console launched in 13 countries vs the PS4 launching in only 2, with both selling about the same number within the same time frame. If you average it out, the XBone technically only sold about 77K units per country, vs PS4's 500K + per country. Both had amazing launches, but it's clear that PS4 is outselling the XBone by a large margin, when the console releases in it's other 31 territories in the coming months. I honestly don't find it impossible for the PS4 to be outselling by a 3 to 1 ratio in less than 1/6 of the regions, both of which are arguably XBOX's strongest territories. Not to mention of course, you can still find XBone's in retailers atm, but pretty much every retailer is out of PS4 until March. Think about it for a sec; either XBone is doing just okay or PS4 is doing amazingly. Thoughts?

Yeah 13 country's vs 2. No wonder the bone sold over a mill. Still we will have to wait for the worldwide release of boh for a real comparison.

My point exactly. Sony produced a lot more PS4's than the XBone due to much higher demand, and all those systems are being sold right out the gate. Sony is already dominating, and the gen literally just started.

We should be unimpressed by both because the first adopters are usually the hardcore sony and microsoft fans who get the console first. We should atleast wait until janurary to make judgement about their sales but I suspect that the PS4 will cannibalize the xbox market because all it comes down to is the $100 price difference.

I agree, the console needs to be released in all countries before we can count one out.   A lot of it has to do with shipment/production issues, just like every launch of a console.    If PS4 had 5 million consoles, could they sell 5 million consoles?    Did the PS4 have many available to the general public, or were they all pre-orders only?   Can you currently buy Playstation 4's anywhere or are they sold out?    From what I remember, there were Xbox One's available at launch, just not Day One editions.

Could PS4's numbers be skewed only because of lack of consoles available?   Europe comes out this week, even if Xbox One sold more on their first week, can they keep that momentum despite being released in 12 more countries?   I also find it funny that Japan gets the console AFTER the US.

Some of the stuff posted on here is actually embarassing. Both companies are manufacturing as many units as they can - and selling them all, forward selling months ahead in most cases. Demand for both consoles if far outstripping demand. Which is basically why they both sold out day one.

So why post rubbish like this ?

here in south eastern massachusetts ‚ my toys R us and bestbuy have a few xone’s each . the demand just isn't on the same level as the ps4 . it's ok to admit this ‚ you will not go to jail .

What towns? I have an Aunt in Boston who can pick my Xbox One up for me. Cleaned out here near Philly. Would appreciate just the locations of the BestBuy and Toys R Us. Thanks in advance!

I saw that on Amazon is not available, in Amazon Spain either. In many shops in my area, too: Game Web, Corte Ingles, Fnac. All of them are large sale. If I am going to the shops you find yourself with some units, but not many. 1. Microsoft has sent only to the shops the units which were reserved? 2. Them losing sales? 3.The units sold could be more than 1 million really? 5. Do not understand this strategy of not being able to buy Xbox One because they have all been sold and it is that they can sell a lot more now. Anyone who can answer me?

They don´t have 3mi to sell before Christmass. They probably don´t have 2mi untill next week.

If they waste all PS4 suppply at smaller markets they are screwed.

There is no magic tree ripped with PS4 to pick and a magic supplay chain ready to delivere then to every custumer that wants it.

Lol, you completely missed the point.  People are acting as if the launches are basically the same, saying that if the One only launched in NA, like the PS4, it would have also sold 1M+ there.  That's a ridiculous statement, since if Sony launched only in NA this year, too, they could have sold ~3M.  I mean, you don't think Sony just made and shipped ~1.5M-2M around the world in the past week, do you?  I hope not.  In truth, EU's PS4s have probably been there for a week or so.

Actually i think you have missed the point if xbox had just launched in north america, yes it would have sold 1 million plus.  There would have been more supply available for sale.  Just like if sony had launched in more countries it would have had less supply available in north america.

Why is it so hard for you guys to understand the simple point I am making?  MS only had 1M+ for launch.  Sony has probably 2M-3M for launch.  They didn't just build and ship EU's supply within the last few days.  I'm sure EU has already had their supply in warehouses and the back of stores for at least a week or so.  So yes, if MS decided to only launch in NA this year, instead of 11 other countries, it would have sold 1M+ there.  But, if Sony had decided to do the same thing, instead of launching in 20+ other countries this Fri, it would have sold ~2-3M within the first few days.  It will become obvious later this week who was able to make more supply.

I think the PS4 is doing amazing for the most part. But I also think that is just 24 hours not really a world wide launch. (I know the One has more territories to be launched at too) But actually both companies deserve congrats on what they have done.(Well did) Since technically you are talking about two of the fastest selling consoles ever. It's just that the PS4 is a lot more amazing when you think it only came out in two countries. I don't think (Though I could be proven wrong if we see another generation of consoles) that we will ever see that happen again, and I seriously doubt (Though once again I could be proven wrong if we have another generation of consoles) That we will see 2 systems sell a million units in a 24 hour period again in the same month. (But who knows if there is another generation of consoles and Nintendo get's their act together.. we may see three consoles do it.)

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

Yea, so still no credible link to MS saying what you claim. The link to the forum post has nothing but an overpriced Xbox One bundle in stock which people are will to pay $1000 for. There is also a post in there saying that Walmart has PS4s available. The futureshop link says it is sold out and cannot be reserved. So you offer nothing but baseless claims and a link to futureshop that disproves yourself. Thanks, that all I need to know about possible futher discussion with you.

If you actually read the thread...nevermind.  It's right on major nelsons twitter...........There is a huge diff selling 1 million 1 NA versus 13 territories.. PS4 is cheaper and in higher demand, that is simply fact. MS knew they would never match sony's day 1 sales, so they spread their launch over 13 territories so they could say day 1 they sold 1 mill also. And of course MS fans will use that as spin. NExt week the ps4 jumps ahead for good. IF they both had unlimited stock, and launched the same day PS4 would have sold considerably more.

Ms also has plenth in stock on the MS store...not sold out.

I have read the thread. I also checked Major Nelson's Twitter account, there is nothing there saying that they still have plenty of stock or that they failed to sell most of their initial stock. If you would, link me the direct tweet. I also checked the MS Store, both the US and Canada (because you referenced Futureshop), but they are out of stock at both online stores. If they get more stock, of course they will be available again, it's not like they stopped making the system.

i think if sony released in all countries they would of sold 1-1.5 million as well. im a sony fan boy but but..

sony has 2 weeks now to mass make more ps4's where xbox had then to now to release consoles fairly to 13 countries to support some what of the demand.

personally i think it was smart of sony because they know they have the same market as the xbox one and are leading in europe by having more sales the microsoft when it comes to the ps3 and xbox 360 and they are fishing out more impressive numbers because they are taking the time to make more and just sell as much as they can there.
