To cut this short. Of course its a system seller. Especially when it scores in 9.5 range. Every game on that range is gonna be a system seller. |
okami. shadow of colossus. xenoblade .s
It's hard to predict Mario sales. Usually 2D Mario sells better than 3D, but obviously NSMBU didn't shift a lot of systems. Although, they have bunched the NSMB too close together recently, and there were two released in 2012. 3D World has a huge advantage over the Galaxy games in that it has true mutliplayer plus the awesomeness of 3D Mario, so it's the best of both worlds.

glad im not the only one who knew that comment made no sense
I love how people arbitrarily decide that games like Wonderful 101 and Sonic were supposed to move systems, and then conclude when they don't that no game will ever help the Wii U. Sonic hasn't been a system seller for years, tending to sell 1-2 million, with generally slow openings and long legs, generally as budget titles. Platinum's games have generally always sold mediocre at best. So, comparing those games to Mario 3D World is pretty silly.

I would say Wii Party U and Mario & Sonic Olympics seemingly bombing on the Wii U are probably far more concerning. Doesn't seem like that free Wii Fit U trial is doing much either.
Nintendo has clearly bet heavily on these mini-game compilations to be Mario 3D World's supporting cast this year, and it looks like that whole formula is out of gas. Nintendo Land (underwhelming sales as the showcase Wii U title), Game & Wario (bomb), Mario & Sonic (looks like a bomba), Wii Party U (looks like a bomba in the West) ... not good.
Mario 3D World doesn't have a lot of help unfortunately.
Surely the best the WiiU has to offer at this point.

His examples are much less controversial than Skyward Sword, let's be real. But I also agree with the two of you for the point being, high meta =/= high sales. There are some exceptions. |
i could have used a better example, i admit that.

Why are you assuming that the same people who said those games would move systems are the same ones who say that nothing will help? That is a completly wrong outlook, as those people who said those games would move systems, were either lying to themselves or had a few screws loose. General consensus is Mario will have a much better chance than those two.
Just see this game as a game that appeals to hardcore Nintendo fans only. I don't see it bringing in the gamers outside that demographic.
Nsmbu is the only game that kept wii u from flopping completely. It's a shame Nintendo treats 2d Mario so half assed.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
