Forums - Sales Discussion - You people are idiots for thinking console launches EVEN MATTER.

How's that for a attention grabber :D

Anyway, just a quick and obvious point here. What's all this fuss about the Ps4 vs Xbone launch numbers? It's pretty obvious at this point (although the Xbone hasn't launched yet) that it won't reach the Ps4's NA numbers (1 mil in 24 hours) and might struggle to even pass 1 mil in 20 or so countries. However, why does this matter?

Do you people not remember the Ps3 launch? Genji. Resistance. Riddddgggeee Raccceeerrrr. 360 had a 1 year lead. EVERYBODY had flocked over to the 360. The race (for 2nd place) was over before it started. OH WAIT.

Fast forward 7 years after launch, the Ps3 reguarily and effortlessly outsells the 360 worldwide, eventually attaining a higher global overall total this year. WHO SAW THIS COMING?!!?!?

Pretty much, this race is not a sprint, it's a marathon. We aren't even up to the starting line yet (it starts the 29th when the Ps4 launches in Europe). Sure, good starts matters, but to all those who run long distances, it's all about PACING yourself.

*Disclaimer* I think none of you are idiots. In fact I love you all.

PS3 was outselling it right from the start, even with that shitty launch lineup.

Still, idiots? Excuse us for discussing gaming on a gaming forum.

I don't think calling people idiots in your thread title is the best way to create productive discussion. That being said, the PS3 was able to outsell the 360 over its lifetime despite launching later, having (often) inferior multiplatform titles, being consistently more expensive, and having initial bad press. The PS4 has none of those problems and actually has several advantages now. Everything seems to be going in the system's favor and logically it looks like the system will be the gen leader. Unless Microsoft makes a massive, game changing move, I can't see the XB1 outselling the PS4 when Sony has Japan and Europe on its side (even if MS could achieve parity in NA).

Add this to all the XBox ONe articles that have been trollin. launch of anything is no where near the potential it will become, both consoles included.

You would be correct in saying they do not define the course of an entire generation but they still matter a lot. Launches are a much bigger deal now than they were in the past. The PS4 and Xbone will sell a decent percentage of their life time sales in the first week. The PS4 selling over 3.5% of the PS3's life time NA sales in a single day illustrates this perfectly.
