Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One Cold Boot Takes 1 Minute and 8 Seconds, Runs Hotter, Consumes More Power In Standby Than PS4

Once more I have to wonder if MS put any thought at all into the X1 or if they are trying to make it inferior in every single way possible.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if it was integrated with myspace instead of Facebook...

Congratulation, this is the most fanboyish FUD post of the week.

Xbox One runs quieter during gaming:
Gaming: Xbox One - 42dB, PS4 - 51dB

Xbox One's "case"/hottest spot temperature is only higher during gaming (PS4 vent peaks at 50°C)
Gaming: Xbox One - 49°C, PS4 - 44°C

If it is hotter but quieter, it just means they are running the fan at a lower RPM.  They can always boost the fan speed to drop the temperature if they think heat will be an issue (at the expense of making it louder).

Conversely, Sony obviously decided that 51 dB is quiet enough and gives them the cooling they need.  They could also drop down their fan RPM to make the unit quieter (and hotter).

I am happy that neither runs like my old AMD Athlon XP 1700+ :)

IMO both consoles are fine, it's just that OP picks out the bad things of the One and compares it to the "best" values of the PS4. Telling half-truths.

What did you expect. Every time you come into a negative XBox one Article it's by a sony fan. C'mon this the game played around here. They must not like the pS4 because they have constently posted in here.

In gaming the Xbox One is 5° more hotter but is 10 time more quieter, because (dB) is a logarithmic unit. XD

RROD2 coming to an xbone near you very soon

The 1 minute cold boot makes sense thought the Xbone has a powerful OS and it was designed to be on stand by mode for years.

By "Powerful" you mean unoptimized.  Linux is far snappier than Windows and it is used in super computers...

I meant powerful for a gaming console and it will get better.

Did you ever use Linux on PS3? Well... And what does this have to do with PS4? It doesn't use Linux.

PS4 supposedly uses FreeBSD, which is similar to Linux.

I don't know where the Windows comment comes from, as MS has said that the XBOne does not run Windows, but a new OS designed from the ground up.

Come on folks, saying boot time doesn't matter is like saying load times don't matter. Technology is progressive, and will only become more convenient. Thus, some will complain, and rightfully so.

Like some have pointed out, some will cold boot while some will not. Therefore, this will only affect those who cold boot for whatever reason. As for the time itself, it does seem a little long. My PC boots in less than 10 seconds with an SSD, and it used to boot in less than 30 seconds before the SSD. My laptop with a 5400rpm hard disk and Win8.1 boots in roughly 30 seconds as well. So, Xbox One does look a little slow.

I'd imagine it's probably early stages of it's complex OS built on 3 OSs' so it should get better through system updates over time.

As for the heat, it does seem a little disappointing considering it has the power brick outside and a bigger heat sink (with a weaker APU) compared to PS4; not to mention the bigger housing.

How?  I am just saying it is getting odd.  I cannot figure out how something bigger, that uses a cut down version of the SAME GPU can consume more power.  It baffles me...

Just thought I would chime in quick with regards to boot up time of the PS4. I had to double test this because it surprised me, but both the "Cold" boot and stand-by boot are the same time of 25 seconds.

My replacement SSHD gets in monday so I will tell you guys if that changes things over the default HDD.

The minor difference in heat generated and the power consumption don't really bother me but the 1 min 8 sec. boot time seems awfully long.

im pretty sure it will get better with time and most probably within a couple of months. its pretty clear MS is no where near finished with the OS so i doubt they would leave this and not adjust it. honestly i dont see this as a big issue
