Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is Double Helix a respectable studio now?

What cracks me up about this is how little people cared for the series back in the day.

Sure it 'hyped' the N64 but it ended up on the SNES and whilst being very good and selling well it was all about Tekken and to a lesser extent Virtua Fighter back then, the whole 3D revolution.

By the time it did come to N64 people didn't care, both critically and commercially.

Now everyones hyped for a sequel to a game no one cared about?

Personally I love KI and will no doubt be all over this when I get an Xbox One but I'm just amused at everyone coming out from under a rock. Where were these fans in 1996/97?

This is in no way aimed at individuals in this thread, I'm just speaking as a whole since this was announced at E3.

To answer your question without beating around the bush.

It was a launch title for N64, that tells you everything about the fans location.

Play Station was catching fire and enthusiasm of 3D gaming over 2D was instant.

Virtua Fighter was way more popular and technical(3D rendering) than Tekken... in the arcades where it mattered in the 90's.

just show us fulgure ...

Is this Fulgore enough for you?

It actually seems they did a great job, obviously the lack of characters lowered the meta.

I assume Microsoft wants to test the waters with 6 characters and then hopefully have DH pound out another 6 or hopefully more.
For now I rate it ComboOoBreaker/10
Even though I have yet to play it.

Their Silent Hill Homecoming showed a bunch of hard workers with little imagination, it was a mediocre but at least it had some quality and care into it, but it sure did not had any soul and the focus on combat was a travesty, but they were never a bad developer, they were decent.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

If you mean are they considered good developers now then not even close, you just have to look at this:

There is no way to tell how the game will really do. Ask again in 10 months.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

So they weren't? Meta of Killer Instinct is nothing to brag about, though.

You think many other fighting games out there would have score the same as KI with 6 charact. and 1-2 modes of play?

The lack of characters is cancelled by its lower price.

Except it isn't, plenty of reviews marked down because more characters and story/arcade mode isn't day one.

73 metascore is only 3 points higher than Silent Hill Homecoming. How is that supposed to change anything?

Edit: My bad.. it's 2 points..

The difference is that KI was praised for everything but the content which will be changing soon.  Starting January they are adding a new character every month and story is being released soon too.  If this was released all on day one the scores would be in the mid 80s  If they re-release the game as a full edition or reviewers re-review it once all of it comes out you will see higher scores.

Not entirely sure it would score mid 80's, but definitely around 80.

OT: This just means DH have found their niche. I fully expect that if strider is a mess, they'll stick to fighting games. Either working with MS on KI or creating their own.

I think around an 80-84 would be fitting personally.  Which would put it in the same league as MK9 http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/mortal-kombat

I do wish people would read the reviews rather than just looking at the scores.
