Forums - Gaming Discussion - do you think RTS games are hard?

honestly real time strategy games are the easiest to me.but some people find it very hard to play it.if you think real time strategy games are hard then what for?

Nope. Fun, relaxing games for me (though I haven't played one in ages).

Its fun. But the problem is we have very few quality RTS now a days. Quality RTS games are rare.

Depending on which ones... If your talking about RTS such as the Halo ones on Consoles/Windows, then no... If your talking about stuff like Command and Conquer, Starcraft 2, then I would say average, they are easy enough to learn but hard to master... And if your talking about CIV5/Sins of a Solar Empire type, then heck yes!!!

Not hard no but some RTS have overwhelming learning curves and it turns me off.

Well as with anything against humans, it's hard because you're not the best.

Against ai it's relaxing though.

My most favorite RTS game is still the very first one I ever played: Dune II (which was also one of first RTS games ever developed). It blew me away. Then came WarCraft 1+2, C&C series, AoE, Dungeon Keeper. Good times.

Best RTS ever created (and #2 in my list of favorites): AoE II.

You should try playing against other people instead of doing skirmishes against AI on easy.

Exactly, they are much hard when playing against other people.

The golden age of pc rts games. I grew up on Dune II, the game used to drive my parents crazy, ready, reporting, on my way. Dune was actually the first one I played but the RTS there was just a small experimental component. I made a scenario editor for Dune 2 (levels were simple text files) and played it for years with friends. Always fun to make a scenario with a whole row of palaces of the Harkonnen side, then try to survive the regular armageddon missile launches :)

AoE II is the last great one I played as well. I like base building and the RTS genre has been moving away from that ever since.

To the op: Have you tried Settlers, can't get more relaxing then that. (Well they did add more fighting in the later ones :/)
Nowadays I stick to games like Tropico for that building itch. Simply destroying stuff isn't fun anymore.
