@Noobie, I'd actually be way more curious as to see what direction Microsoft takes, with services like "Games on Windows", and all these 360 titles going to PC... I'd make sure MS wasn't just building their own software devision and planning to go PC only >_>;;; I mean MS hasn't done so greatly with hardware recently have they? When your hardware sets you back billions, but games like Halo 3 give you.... a comfortable amount to say the least :P it seems to makes sense.

I m not saying that PS3 should be selling at Wii level but to become a force in console market PS3 should be selling like 30 - 50k more than XBOX per week... else its really a lost cause.. and with the reason i have mentioned above i fail to see this happening.. and i m not seeing any news or report or even a rumour that Sony management is realising this gr8 loss of time they r wasting in taking any initiative to reverse this trend.... i think there r still elements in Sony gaming division which r following the Kutaragi vision that PS3 is a giant that other should come to it and ask for allegiance...

So my Prediction PS3 is going to be a last gaming console by SONY


This is THE most stupidest thread i have ever read....since when does selling in second place in the console war for the last like 2 months mean you are going out of business? since when does making a PROFIT last quater in the GAMING division mean going out of business? Since when does selling more copies of Devil may cry4 world wide in its first weeek mean going out of business. Since when does WINNING the movie format war (ONLY because of the playstation 3) mean going out of business? Since when does selling 8% more in the U.S.A. this week over last week mean going out of business?

 and if you look at burnout the sales of the ps3 version are VERY close. and mind you Devil may cry was more money then the 360 version and ps3 STILL outsold it world wide. i think you crazy and 4got how to read.......

 Aren't they still recording a huge loss over both the X-box and 360? As in billions. Not even nother Halo can save them that much. But sadly MS are rich and will jsut throw money at it like they usually do.

 While Sony has made a few billion profit overall from their Playstation range and SCE divisions and Nintendo keep making money.

Some things to remember...

1. All Nintendo does is Video Games, its in their best interest to stick it through no matter how grim things get. Sony has other much larger investments and while those can arguably support their gaming investments it also means they're not bound strictly to or committed entirely to the gaming industry and could just as easily decide its not worth the trouble to continue on with the possibility of a long term loss.

2. Nintendo, despite all their foolish mistakes in the past have always been sound and prudent business men, something Sony is struggling with in terms of such common sense, the PS3's launch and logistics being the case and point. This doesn't prove anything, but it shows Sony at least up until this point has lacked the basic skills which have allowed Nintendo to wait out the drout of such consoles as the N64 and GC.

3. With the Video Game industry having come as far as it has, its unlikely there will ever be another slip up like the PS3 to allow someone else back to the top where Nintendo now is. Nintendo has been the king and has been the pauper, they've learned much and have shown time and time again the ability to innovate in ways which their competition simply hasn't been able to match up until this point.

I don't think this generation will spell doom for Sony in Gaming, though the next generation may very well be the deciding factor.


um next gen sony will be on top again......... i think no console will be over 400 bucks next time. nintendo business sense was just as stupid thats why the lost ALL 3rd party support for 10 years. once sony falls as far as nintendo has (which it has NOT) then come back to me.

thats  what is really hurting sales as well

Till MGS4, FFXIII, GT5, KZ2, R2, LBP, GoW3 releases, it`s pointless to doom PS3.
And 299$ price could make WONDERS any DAY.
PS3 is not in position of GC, which started at 199$ (when ps2 cost 299$), and even at 149$ didn`t succed. =)

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far
