Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I think a Wii U redesign is coming next year

Just a hunch, but I suspect a redesigned Wii U is coming next year.

One with a significantly smaller controller. I'm thinking something slightly larger than the Vita, but not by much. Smaller screen, but still 5+ inches (will save Nintendo a few bucks and will increase battery life). I think they will ditch the "tablet" look entirely.

The chipset will have die shrinks to 28nm. Not sure if that'll make a huge difference, but it could open the door to an even smaller casing size.

Perhaps a few other tweaks like better screen quality and longer wireless distance for the controller.

No changes to the name or anything like that though.

How long did it take for the second model of the Wii to come out?  That black model that they took out the backwards compatability.

Red & Black

6 years

Nintendo rarely redesigns consoles (but out the wazoo for handhelds)

If anything they would just add more Memory, either an actual Hardrive or just Flash Memory (tho Flash is expensive).

I have no problem with the Gamepad size, it looks it at first but once you use it a bit, it feels natrual

Several years. There are three versions of the original Wii (RVL-001 from Nov. 06, RVL-101 from Nov. 11 that only sits horizontally, and RVL-201 which is the Wii mini).

But I think there was no point in revising the Wii hardware early on as Nintendo was simply swamped with trying to keep up with demand. Obvisouly Wii U is a pretty different story.

when the controller is as big as the console, you have a problem

Around what month do you expect it?

Like the DS Lite model, I think this is a good idea.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

I've been saying for a long time that the gamepad will shrink and a cost reduced wii u will come out. I saw a child using the gamepad in store and it was just too large for the child and for a console aimed at a younger audience this is clearly not ideal. I'm not sure the chipset will shrink to 28nm. I think the wii u already runs cool enough with no reliability problems and 28nm is a more expensive process. I certainly expect fabrication to shrink in time but only when 28nm becomes cheap when a better fabrication process replaces it like 22nm.

It wouldn't surprise me if a wired gamepad became available or at least a gamepad with a wired option.

I think Nintendo are going to be forced to a very low price point for wii u and so the console will need to be cost reduced even further. Maybe even a top loader design?

I'd like to see the smaller gamepad charge on the main console as an option.

I`m waiting for it to happen.
Smaller, slicker controller with same screen size;
Console redesign;
Wii U logo change to actually make the U the same size as the Wii name or it goes for Unity (keeping the U logo).

Meh, only thing i can see nintendo changing is storage size
