Forums - Gaming Discussion - The guy behind Star Citizen is a complete dick imo

Cross-platform multiplayer kills network effects and and paying for updates adds some quality control.

Nothing wrong with his statement, everything he said makes perfect sense.

People payed plenty of money ($26 mils so far, if I'm not mistaken) for it to be top notch game made for PC gamers and their high(er) end rigs. Putting it on PS360 would really be massively dumbing it down, and no wonder he does not want to compromise his vision - for anyone doubting it, just look at minimal requirements for the game (8GB, 64-bit OS; GPU slightly faster than XOne's)

Only thing that is truly laughable in all this is how ignorant major publishers remain overlooking this particular genre.

PS that picture is from X Rebirth, a better game than Star Citizen from the looks of it, and one that have been there since forever.

You do know that X Rebirth was released a few days ago and is getting slaughtered? http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/x-rebirth/user-reviews

I wouldn't say he's being a total dick. He's just passionate about his platform and obviously tired of dumbing down games which happens a lot. Also, marketing speech. No one ever blames the big companies for praising their products even if they deserve none of that praise (in which case they're obviously lying).

“IF the platform holders (Sony and Microsoft) allow us to update the code and data without restrictions and odious time consuming QC procedures, IF they allow our community to openly interact with each other across platforms, then I would CONSIDER supporting them.”

I find that a bit worrying. Does he think that he's flawless?

He probably finds it time-consuming, expensive, and in many cases, unnecessary.

And someone who finds QC unnecessary is someone who thinks they're flawless.

He doesn't think he's "flawless". He just thinks the restrictions of the gaming console environment are stupid.

The reason why some games never leave the PC is because they are a closed environment that force restrictions that PC doesn't. There is nothing "arrogant" about pointing this out and explaining that this is why you will probably never see this game on those platforms.

Also, he is not "another indy". He is a professional game developer who was a big whig in the industry for years and worked on many big productions for major (at the time) publishers. The only reason why he is an indy is because the gaming genre he specializes in died over a decade ago and no publisher will touch it now.

Look at bullshit like War Z.

Consoles are mass market devices sold to tens of millions of people. It's ridiculous not to have fucking QC for a product to be sold on such a large and mainstream market.

Console QC is why there is huge difference between TF2 PC vs TF2 consoles.

If he aims to high, the game will flop like Crisis.

Nice generalization there. Devs do QC themselves, and the extra QC by console companies is an extra hindrance for many. And does it even work all that well? I bet you Skyrim didn't see enough QC on any platform...
