Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Faulty Wii U launch systems

Well it has been a whole year now since the console launched.  I bought mine on day one.

I only had ever heard of the Xbox 360 faulty systems with the "red ring of death" I believe it was called.

If I had known that launch systems usually had problems I would totally have held off on the Wii U until this year.

My first Wii U kept freezing, so I sent it into Nintendo for repairs.  It took over a month for them to get it back to me.  When it finally got back to me, I had found out that they did not repair the system, only that they had sent me a new one with the same problems as the last one and all of my data was gone.

To this day it still freezes off and on, for some reason when it is loading the eshop and miiverse a lot lately.  Anyone else have issues?

Is their a way yet to copy and transfer Wii U game data to another system?  I just don't want to lose my data again...

Can you copy your data on a USB then when they send your Wii U back transfer it back off the USB?  Idk if you can, never connected a USB to my Wii U yet.

well mine is completely fine, bought it day 1... although I would expect it to be fine, it hasn't been used to be broken

My Wii U runs flawlessly.
Then again, I bought it 13 days ago... ;)

I've dealt with the occasional freeze, but it's nothing too impacting. I got my Wii U a month after launch.

Say what you want about Nintendo but their hardware seems flawless in terms of failure rates! Not a peep at launch about broken systems. Seems you've been unlucky.

I've had mine since around launch. I got the occasional freeze playing NFS and then 1 or 2 OS freezes in the first month or so but one of the early patches fixed that. I don't think I have had a single issue since then.

the updates fixed the freezes so it was more of a software thing than hardware. it got the updates pretty fast and after that I've never had it freeze on me. and yeah I bought it day one but usually Nintendo products don't break so I wasn't worried at all

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

The freezing issue with NFS is an issue with the game, but it's an EA title so it's never getting patched. Outside of the  freezing issue with NFS, I haven't had any problems. I have a launch Wii U by the way.

I have the same problems but I always thought it was just a software thing. It's crashed a few times before while watching hulu or youtube.
