Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Should Nintendo buy third party support?

The real question is, why don't 3rd parties get a clue and just start making more good Wii games? Don't they have market analysts who are supposed to see the potential for profit there?

The Wii is selling just fine as it is, and it's making very good profit for Nintendo, so I don't see why Nintendo should spend money to educate 3rd parties. I say let them sort it out by themselves.

I say throw some money at Free Radical and get Timesplitters 4 exclusive, but that's just wishful thinking. If it's true about Disney picking the console for KH games then the Wii will be a no brainer. Hell, they can send some help over to Ubisoft so they'll get Red Steel 2 on Metroid Prime 3's level.

Even if Disney doesn't pick the console for KH3, the Wii is a no brainer for it. The only reason FF13 isn't going to be on theWiiis because SE already spent too much money developing it on the PS3.

That is a very good question, ask myself it very often.

Lower production costs + Bigger install base = MORE PROFIT

not sure if they need to buy support, but they need to buy advertisements for third parties.

I doubt that'll ever happen. Nintendo can give them hype free, but 3rd parties need to pay for their own damn marketing, I don't care how desperate Nintendo gets for 3rd party support.

That said, it almost seems funny at this point to pretend like the Wii isn't getting great 3rd party support.

Sure, it's not at the level of say, the 360, which relies on 3rd party support to survive, but Ninty's got some good companies developing exclusive games for the Wii, and a lot of multiplats.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The Wii isn't getting great 3rd party support. There, was it funny? ;)

No really, it isn't. When it gets a lot of exclusives tailored to its characteristics, timely and excellent ports of most multiplat games, among most genres, then we can say it's getting great 3rd party support.

Oh but they do. PS3 domination starts at launch, starts at early 2007, starts from next pricecut, starts at christmas 2007, starts at MGS, starts at 2008, starts when BD wins, starts at 2009... Great analysists. @Topic: Nintendo doesn't need to buy it. They would have needed to buy them in 2005, when a lot of the main franchises got their start for development. Since obviously the idea was to get the main series of 3rd parties main franchises. Even if Nintendo would buy exclusivity to these games, we'd propably see them on the Wii at sometime close to the end of this gen. Which is going to happen anyway. Publishers aren't going to rush (hopefully) the next sequel of their main series as fast as possible to kill the sales of the latest version because it made only a small profit/loss. So, you either make a port or a spinoff. And i like to remind that spinoffs doesn't mean the game would be bad. For example, one Donkey Kong spinoff is considered one of the best series in the world, RE spinoff on the Wii is IMO the best game in the series, from Squares games i liked the most from sequel to FF spinoff, (one of) the best selling games last gen is GTA spinoff, Xbots like to name Halo wars to one of anticipated games on 360... The list could be endless. Anyway, Nintendo does do something to "buy" 3rd party support, they often hire some 3rd party to develope a game for them.

it can help to buy third party support but only if they are proven developers with a good track record and they area reasonable price.

So Sega asked for Sonic to be in Brawl? same with Konami and Snake?

I had no idea that they asked them to be included. I thought it was Nintendo wanting to give the game some new and popular characters, so they went asking 3rd party companies if they could use the characters

Yet true, Hideo Kojima is a big fan of the SSB series and asked for the character to be included in melee at the time. None such plans but in Brawl Sakurai thought about expaning the nature of the SSB series and added TP characters. Kojima was the first one to come aboard.

yes....right now they need to gobble up all the third parties they can ----it will ensure you having to use the wii to make games or paying nin to get the goods

It's a dirty war, and sometimes you have to play even dirtier. Yes I do think that they should pay for some exclusive, maybe if they did then it'll give games like KH3, FF (main), RE5, and any other games that are "impossible" to do on the Wii.

My computer's running slow today (or is it the site) anyway sorry for the double post     .
