Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Can Nintendo pump out 1 Wii U exclusive per month in 2014 ?

^Agreed 100%! According to my list plus Wii Fit U now, that's already 11 possible games for 2014. All Nintendo needs to do is announce atleast one completely new game and they'll have enough games to potentially release 1 per month.

Zelda next year would be great but I'm skeptical that it can be done when you consider that FExSMT and Yarn Yoshi are unlikely to be out next year and have been in development for just as long if not longer. You'd think both of those games would have considerably shorter development periods.

Alright, so now what makes you think FExSMT and Yarn Yoshi wont release next year? Because you believe "insert another game here" wont release next year lol?

Well Nintendo themselves have both games listed as TBA and not 2014. We haven't seen any gameplay from Yoshi and haven't even seen any artwork at all from FE. I also assume the Atlus transition may have affected development a little.

Hopefully they'll make 2014 but I don't think it's the end of the world if they don't. Neither are going to be massive sellers and would benefit from having a larger userbase.

They will release more than 5 games dude. They managed that this year, even amidst the drought, after all, and they realize they have a lot of ground to make up. And what honestly makes you think that Yarn Yoshi and FExSMT aren't coming out next year? Neither type of game takes ALL too long to make, Good-Feel especially, while a small company, is very effecient. Not to mention the fact that Kirby's Epic Yarn came out in 2010. That means they likely started development on this new game possibly sometime in 2011, or at LEAST 2012. Which would imply it should have had plenty of time to cook by now. The new Zelda, for that matter, may well wait till 2015, but it certainly could be a late 2014 title, seeing as it's been in development since the Skyward Sword came out, and a (rumored to be) rather large team is working on it, with the WW and now ALBW teams being added to it.

I agree they'll release more than five games, but I wouldn't have thought they'd have too much more at retail. I assume Next Level Games are up to something and EAD surely have another game or two up their sleeve but there aren't many other Nintendo studios likely to have a major game due in 2014.

Good-Feel are indeed great and you can be sure they won't rush Yoshi. They have been doing other things since Kirby's Epic Yarn, helping out with other projects but you'd assume that wouldn't take up all their staff, so I don't know. 2014 would be great but I wouldn't put it down as a definite when Nintendo themselves didn't list it as 2014.

Edit: Third party collaborations are of course possible as well... But you'd think we would have heard of something by now if there were any major ones.

Wii Sports U and Mario Party 10 are candidates

Bayonetta 2, DKRTF, Wii Fit U, Monster Hunter 4 (you know it's going to happen), Mario Kart 8, Wii Sports Club, Smash Bros. 4, Yarn Yoshi, Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei, rumored Pokemon Colisseum game, rumored Wii HD remakes, Dragon Quest X, new Zelda and X.

Nintendo has been really struggling to get any software out on Wii U in the last year. Very different from the Wii where there were new games all the time.

I'm not sure if this is actually true. Looking back at the last three Nintendo consoles, this is their Nintendo software (published anyway) from launch November to their second November:

Wii (Nov.2006-Nov.2007) 10 titles

Wii Sports

Wii Play

Super Paper Mario

Metroid Prime 3

Fire Emblem

Mario Party 7

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

Excite Truck

Super Mario Galaxy

Zelda: Twlight Princess

Wii U (Nov. 2012-Nov.2013) 13 titles

Nintendo Land

New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U

Pikmin 3

Super Mario 3D World

Wii Fit U (downloadable version)

LEGO City Undercover

The Wonderful 101

Mario & Sonic Sochii Olympics

Game & Wario

Wii Party U

Sing Party!

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge

 GameCube (Nov.2001-Nov.2002) 10 titles

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Luigi’s Mansion

Pikmin

Wave Race: Blue Storm

Super Mario Sunshine

NBA Courtside 2002

Eternal Darkness

Star Fox Adventures

Mario Party

Animal Crossing

Metroid Prime

I didn't include Wii Sports Club for Wii U either, though I suppose I could.

By my count it is Wii 16 Nintendo IPs vs Wii U's 6 (Or 17 and 7 if you include Mario and Sonic Olympics).

A lot of the Wii U games you mentioned are Demos, third party game - most of which are not even using Nintendo IPs:

Wii U (Nov. 2012-Nov.2013) 13 titles

Nintendo Land

New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U

Pikmin 3

Super Mario 3D World

Wii Fit U (downloadable version) - DEMO - and the final game will mostly an expansion since it is Wii Fit & Wii Fit+ with some new content.

LEGO City Undercover - WARNER BROTHERS

The Wonderful 101 - PLATINUM GAMES

Mario & Sonic Sochii Olympics - SEGA - And you left off the Wii Mario and Sonic Olympics also released in that time period, so you would likely agree with this.

Game & Wario

Wii Party U

Sing Party! - ACTIVISION

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge - TECMO

On the Wii list, you skipped out several Nintendo IPs including:

Super Paper Mario

Big Brain Academy

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast

Big Brain Academy

Mario Strikers

Link's Crossbow Training

In other words, Nintendo is releasing almost as low as 1/3rd the games they were releasing on the Wii, and the games that they are releasing are NO WHERE NEAR as good; especially considering that Wii had multiple flagship titles during its first year, and Wii U won't have any true flagship titles until 2015 when Mario Galaxy 3 (supposedly) and Zelda U get released.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Unless 2014 is officially coined by Nintendo as the year of Yoshi, then I'm also skeptical about Yarn Yoshi releasing next year, Yoshi's New Island doesn;t even have a solid release date yet. 2015 has a little more correlation since it'd be the 25th and 20th anniversaries of SMW and Yoshi's Island 1 respectively.

Then again, 2015 would also be the 30th anniversary of Super Mario...

Anyone wanna enter a bet about Yarn Yoshi's release?

I'll take that bet easy! 2014 will see Yarn Yoshi for sure!

Jan-Wii Fit U (retail version)
Feb-Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
March-Bayonetta 2
April-Mario Kart 8
May-Super Smash Bros for Wii U
June-Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem
July-Yarn Yoshi
August-X
Sept-3rd Sonic exclusive
Oct-Mario Party U
Nov-Legend of Zelda U
Dec-Wii Sports Club (release 1-2 sports per month and at the end of the year release them all at retail for $49.99 bundled with a Motion Plus)

This would be a pretty stacked year and 2015 could see a price cut to $199 along with games like Metroid, Kirby, Star Fox, F-Zero, Animal Crossing, Super Mario Universe, Nintendo World
