Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 and XBONE are in for the same drought as WiiU

Except for the fact that wiiU games really aren't good.

Is that why every single WiiU 1st party title except for Game & Wario and Wii Party U have meta scores of 77 or higher?

No. WiiU didn't have a drought if you just count any old games. WiiU had a drought in decent noticeable software, something xbox one definitely does not have.

December: Halo SA, Peggle 2, Xbox Fitness
January: D4, Spinal DLC for KI
February: Rayman Origins, Thief
March: Titanfall, Fulgore DLC for KI, Elder Scrolls Online
April: PVZ Garden Warfare, Kinect Sports Rivals

Q1/Q2: Project Spark, Watchdogs, Fantasia and Destiny

yeah i never got that, WIi U had a lot of games at launch. If a drought was such a big issue, why didnt people buy those?!

Probably because those games were late and or inferior ports, basically not games worth buying a system for. XB1/PS4 wont have this problem because their games are releasing close enough and are the superior versions.

no argument there, well for the most part, I think the inferior part is overblown when it comes to those launch games. AC3, COD werent inferior and the late ones was pretty good for the most part. My point was, that alot of those games sold like crap, so my question to the people that were complaining about droughts, what were you expecting and why not buy some of the dozens of games that WERE released in the launch window, and even if one makes the argument that they had a console with those games already, why the hell even buy a Wii u in the first place? at least that soon.

Well that's just me going off of what I heard, since I obviously didn't play the Wii U versions of any of those games. :L
And the answer to your question is blind hype. Unless one didn't already have a PS3/360 for third partys and a 3DS for Mario, then there really was no reason to buy one at launch, aswell as for the next 8 months.

Theres a good chance that people who bought Wii U at or around launch also are PS3/360 owners so mostly late ports of games they already played arent really going to help during a drought.

then i would question why such a person would buy a Wii U at launch in the first place. Most of the games were going to be ports and it was apparent that Ninty themselves wouldnt have that much in the pipeline in the first few months(and the didnt)

Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, Wonderful 101, Wii Fit U, Game & Wario were all originally launch window games, add that to Lego City Undercover and u could average one exclusive per month in the first half of the year.

No, we knew those games would be delayed BEFORE the system launched, now i know that not everyone follows games like that ,but i imagine most of the people buying these things day 1 would. Hell i dont think half of those games were ever confirmed at launch window

I don't know ... inFAMOUS, DriveClub, Witcher 3, Destiny, The Elder Scrolls Online, Watch_Dogs, and a bunch of downloadable games should sustain me. There are likely other games I'm not accounting for since I can't recall all. XB1 people have TitanFall and that should sustain them for sometime as well. I don't think it's going to be as bad as the Wii U (post launch).

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

To include download-only games would be to concede that the Wii U did not suffer from a release drought, a ludicrous assertion. For the purposes of this thread, we are not including download-only titles.

It is unusual to have zero retail releases throughout January and February. This past year, the PS3 saw the releases of Ni No Kuni, DmC, and Metal Gear Rising in that time (off the top of my head). The 360 got the latter two of those as well. The 3DS got Fire Emblem: Awakening and Etrian Odyssey IV. If both the PS4 and XO have a complete absence of planned retail releases in those months, I think it's worth pointing out, regardless of their digital lineups.

Isn't Infamous out in February rather than March?

As for downloadable games. They have been the main highlight of 2013 for me. Hotline Miami has blown me away.

infamous is out on 21st of march. its been confirmed. however the OP forgets about drive club, we still dont know a release date for that. and the OP acts as downlaodable games are not in fact games. because Planet Side 2 is coming out on PS4 in early 2014 too.

You guys really using downloadable games as a excuse? Thats a lot of money to spend n a console just to have to wait 90 days for a new huge retail experience.

To the OP and his ridiculous topic :

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m
