Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your best console online multiplayer experiences of last gen

1. COD4

Set a new standard for consoles, super smooth and responsive movement and shooting, 60fps, everything about it came together to make what felt like the perfect MP at the time.

2. The Last of Us Factions

This will be controversial, especially to those who haven't played it, but I LOVE TLOU's MP. It's surprisingly deep and nuanced, it's incredibly tense at times, brutal and atmospheric. In a sea of COD clones, at the very end of the gen, it offered a fresh experience.

3. Battlefield BC2

Destruction and vehicular combat coupled with tight COD-like mechanics on smaller, but still sizeable maps was a great blend of the typical console experience at the time with BF2 on PC. DICE had to compromise for the weaker hardware, and this was their best effort when it comes to replicating the PC experience at its best. Great DLC.

4. Battlefield 3

Similar to BC2 in a lot of ways, improved mechanics, larger community, same great DLC support. But this is a game designed for PC, or somewhere between PC and consoles, not consoles exclusively, leaving the maps often barren with the smaller player count, and with a step back in destruction it strayed too close to the COD formula for a BF game.

5. Modern Warfare 2

Simply took COD4's formula to the next level, which at the time was honestly all I wanted. It's too bad the series is still stuck in the loop years later.

I only have a Wii, but Mario Kart Wii online was always exciting, especially in the VGChartz league.

- Killzone 2 is by far my number one multiplayer experience. It was gritty, difficult, intense and more than enough customization options. Killzone 3 wasn't as good, it needed DLC and a lot of updates before it became very good. Operations was nice though.

- The Last of Us was also very intense and thrilling which I liked.

- Resistance 2, yeah, I never played a game so much during the first summer after it's release. It was just fun and the co-op was amazing. PLayed most of the times split-screen.

Battlefield 3 and BC2, Call of Duty MW2, Total War had great MP experiences for me too but they were all played on my PC which doesn't count in this thread.

Not a very fan of multiplayer myself. I did pay one year of Xbox Live for Gears of War 3. Best multiplayer experiences I've had, had them there.
