Thanks for that...
Ok I've heard of the official statement of PS+ + PS4 = profit for Sony but surely they don't mean PS4 + $60 as Eurogamer speculated? PS+ is a service with overhead, or do they simply consider it pure profit and lump the cost associated with running PS+ to operation?
Interesting and thanks for the link.

I don't know actually. But sony stated they'll be selling ps4 at a loss, but that's all they said. So the 60$ isn't confrimed ofcourse. It will also vary from currency to currency. So if it's a 60$ loss in USA it will be less in Europe I think.
we also don't know how ps+ works, only rumors on the strategy so far.
There is no way Sony is making 100 per console and Nintendo is losing money on the Wii U. Something is definitly off here.

We know for sure that they pay the IP owner to get third party game on the platform. Eurogamer did a coverage on it where avalanche said they were not getting money for Just Cause 2 on PS+ (because they don't hold the rights to the game) but appreciated the coverage while a indie dev confirm that he was getting paid to have his game on PS+.
Either way it is extremely doubtful that even half of the yearly subscription for PS+ can be converted to profit. The service would have a fair bit of overhead.
Why do people think parts is the only cost in a system?
Sony is making loss but the Plus paywall already put them in profit... so what I can get from that is that the loss is less than $50.
My guesses? PS4 cost to Sony $410 to $430.
About the APU... these are cheaper... PS4's APU is small and not that complex... I think ~$100 today but it can be cheaper soon with better yields... the GDDR5 is expensive in terms of memory.

I'm really interested in how ps+ works. I wonder if sony is ever going to explain it

Retailers make nothing on hardware.
They didnt count DS4 price, taxes and transport.
Sony doesnt make money here
Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:
PS4: 17m XB1: 10m WiiU: 10m Vita: 10m
