the series is on a declind period, i think the whole people are waiting for next gen is just smokescreen. Blops2 sold LESS than MW3 overall even with the extra Wii U version, what was the excuse then?

Activision ain't that stupid. If anything their pretty smart to be making money in a crappy economy. |
Investors expect growth. Activision has already lured investors based on previous sales numbers. If the sales go down, investors start looking elsewhere.
Growth is the reason why, no matter how well you performed last time, you must always improve. If COD starts declining, Activision will feel it in terms of reduced investment.
This is what is happening with Blackberry. Blackberry is still hugely profitable, but their sales are declining and investors are moving their money elsewhere.
Now I'm not saying its as bad as that for Activision, but they will be worried, no doubt.
A lot are jumping to next-gen, so the decline is not so dramatic, but still a decline nonetheless.

GTA V set a new bar, and Activision was expecting CoD Ghosts to re-claim the records that GTA V took from them.
I think too many AAA budget games in short time, and only GTA V was offering a new experience... plus it came out first and now many people are still happily playing that.
I expect CoD Ghosts will have plenty of sales on New-Gen in addition to Prior-Gen and will have long term healthy sales through out the year as those CoD games have done in the past.
Battlefield has a more niche audience in terms of shooter fans... but for New-Gen, it is probably the most "boombastic" shooter available.

This would be great if that meant a diversification of the industry were the result, but so far, the only possible recipient of these sales seems to be GTA5. Unless Killzone: Shadowfall has a week 1 of about 2 million, I'm worried that the lack of Call of Duty will be a blow to our favorite medium. |
Fall of WoW? A subscription mmorpg that still has 7 million subscribers after (in a couple days) 9 full years of being out...is still amazing. I'd say its fall is for completely different reasons (It is simply getting to be an old ass game, despite the expansions). CoD and Guitar Hero were getting way too many releases in the same franchise.
Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
Unfortunately, it's not a flop. Not yet. But it has taken a dive, anyone expecting the One and PS4 to pick up all this lost steam are fooling themselves, they will move some units but they won't sport the 50-60% attach rate they'd need to recover the franchise this year.

I don't know how anyone expected that. Last update and GTAV was at 29 mill shipped. By the end of the year it'll be something like 32mill. |
Probably because Bobby Kotick lied about Ghosts surpassing GTA's revenue record in a day...bull fucking shit

A huge flop by COD standards. Next gen won't change that. It still sold millions though
Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)
