Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Super Smash Bros For Wii U: Will Rosalina Be Announced Tomorrow? New Pic ForeShadows!!!

Looks like a rounder and cleaner version of a Mario Galaxy planet, and it's colorful....but that's it. Damn Sakurai, you had better do something about the lighting engine, it looks so dead in terms of lighting. I imagined a Mario Galaxy-related locale to make its premier in HD to be more "wow-er" than this. O_o......

This stage looks fantastic. I love the concept. I hope the planet goes all the way around, with two direct (and intriguing) gameplay implications: first, that players could only be KO'd UP. Technically you could hit someone to the side, but no matter where they are sent flying, it's "up" relative to some part of the stage. Meteor smashes would probably be rendered completely useless as a means of KOing opponents. Second, players on the "bottom" of the planet would experience inverted controls to an extent -- from the top, hold 'right' long enough and you'll wind up on the bottom, moving 'left' from the player's perspective. What happens if you stop and start again from there? Will 'right' continue moving you clockwise, or will the direction be reversed to accomodate your perspective? This could make battling exactly on the left and right extremes very challenging.

Enticing stage design. Sakurai does it again.

I was thinking along the same line, it would change the gameplay up dramatically. Even if they keep it at half a hemisphere it's still an interesting attempt to break up the norm.I also really like the way the stage looks.

My son seen this and is already bugging me to order it along with Mario Kart

Wow

The 3DS version isn't useless! It gives us more options! For one, if someone who doesn't care about graphics and just wants some Smash Bros., then they can pay $170 minimum rather than $360 minimum for the game and a system.

While that's true (and while the 2-versions-approach will definitely help the game selling better), I think that it wasn't a smart move by Nintendo businesswise.

When they announced that the game would come out for both 3DS and Wii U, they did not know just how badly Wii U would need this game in order to sell, and thus shot themselves in the leg. The fact that there is a 3DS version will greatly diminsh the games system selling ability on Wii U (as opposed to it being completely exclusive). I can't even count the number of people being like "Oh, I will just buy the 3DS version, Wii U is not interesting to me and I don't need it since it also plays on my 3DS and that version will be just as good" (something I think will not be the case, as I believe that the Wii U version will be vastly superior), forgetting that this isn't some PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale-type scenario where handheld and home console version are (nearly? only played the Vita one) identical ignoring the graphics aspect.

So while I like the idea of having a Smash on the go, I don't think that it was a smart move for Nintendo, and they'd better start convincing people that the Wii U version is the version of choice if they want to redeem Smash Bros.' system selling qualities on Wii U.

On topic: Stage looks nice, looking forward to see how it plays.

It might be gimped but who would wanna ignore selling it on a platform that will have a +40 million userbase by the time this releases.

If it had been a Wii U exclusive like it should have been, that would have given a hell of a lot of folks who don't yet own one to go out and finally buy one. If you want to push consoles and improve the prostpects of your next gen system, a "MUST HAVE EXCLUSIVE" like a Smash Bros. or a Mario Kart is sure as hell the way to do that. So sure, they have a ready-made instal base who will no doubt buy the shit out of SB on 3DS. You're right about that. But is it really worth doing so at the expense of what could have been a hell of a lot more Wii U sales? Like I've said in the past, if they REALLY wanted to try out SB on a portable, it would have been a hell of a lot smarter to just focus on the development of this Wii U game, and then AFTER it's done, start developing a different, exclusive SB for down the line on 3DS. That way, they could have the maximum sales impact of a hot "AAA" exclusive on Wii U, and THEN still be assured of also selling a crap-ton of the other, seperate SB game later on 3DS. More sales and more money made by them, all around, and it certainly strikes me that it would have been the smartest way to go.

@FOX

"But I wouldn't blame the 3DS if the Wii U version isn't filling up a BluRay disc. I'd blame Wii U's internal storage."

Wii U's internal storage has nothing to do with it. Rather, blame Iwata and his own comments about the fact that the Wii U version will more than likely "have" to have it's content affected by whatever content the 3DS can handle/will have. And all because he seems committed to this idea of parity, that doesn't need to happen. If the 3DS version of this same game is GOING to exist, then at the very least, the obvious thing to do is simply have it be the "gimped" version, period. The Wii U version should, by all rights, obviously have more characters, more stages, more content, simply because it can handle them. If the 3DS has to miss out on certain things, well too bad. I would think any 3DS owner with a practical mindset would understand that that was going to have to happen. But the Wii U version absolutely does not "need" to be gimped in order for owners of the 3DS version to feel better somehow. I just think the idea that Wii U should miss out on ANY potential content because the lesser 3DS version can't handle it, is absurd.

Anybody else want to see a Toad mushroom ship come crashing into the stage? Maybe some airship Bullet Bill barrages?

Except it is a smart move since as you even said it'll help the game sell more overall meaning more profits overall. Also it gives the 3DS a big game when there otherwise wouldn't be any big games for it in 2014, atleast from what we know currently.

Wow there using alot of games for stages in ssb4 it looks awesome now all we need to complete the galaxy stage is rosalina no one seems to want her in it :(
