Probaly the best Wii U (as in, system) commercial so far!
I honestly really liked it!

I really like it's simplicity and directness. It's very refreshing.

I guess there's two things I'm really wondering about:
Question 1) How does the decision process of purchasing a child's gaming console really play out?
Question 2) Who is the main target/audience of this commercial?

Question 1) How does the decision process of purchasing a child's gaming console really play out?
Some scenarios I have in my mind:

a) The child wants the console, for a variety of reasons. Wanting to play the hot new Call of Duty game. Wanting to play what the other kids are playing/talking about. Seeing a commercial for a game or for a console.

b) The parent consults with the child after being reminded about a console's existence. "Do you want this?". From my memories of a child, I find this highly unlikely, lol.

c) The parent buys a console without consulting the child much, so that they can make it a surprise. Example: Birthday, Christmas, etc.

d) The parent buys a console without consulting the child, because they want to play with the child.

Question 2) Who is the main target/audience of this commercial?

It seems like the parent. I just don't really see anything that makes a child want to get a WiiU to be honest. From my memories of a child, it was always a certain hot game that really made me want to get a console, or because the other kids were.

I really feel like it's important to answer number 1 to evaluate this question, and it's hard since I'm not a parent and can't remember my early childhood. I can definitely see parents just buying a console for their kid because they don't have any other ideas for a present, or because they want to get the kids something to do while they're busy at work.

So in terms of execution, excellent. In terms of strategy, I'm not really sure.

It's not brilliance, but it is good.

Now Nintendo needs to actually air it. I can't remember the last time I saw a WiiU commercial.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Oh good we can "upgrade our Wii" ....but: do we buy that new tablet to add to our wii? does our Wii need upgrading? $300 is an expensive upgrade- more than I paid for the console itself.

If I am going to pay $300 to "upgrade" my Wii , I would rather just by a NEW system altogether like a next generation console- I wish Nintendo would come out with a next gen console instead of an expensive upgrade for our wii!

I think they could have done a better job altogether no the commercial-

Is a step in the right direction, at least now they are putting some effort to show that is a NEW console. They could also benefit if they show that is backwards compatible, but that can be complex to explain in 30 seconds.

Way to attract core gamers Nintnedo. The causuals and famlies have gone away and they're still stuburnly trying to sell games to them. When are they going to wake the hell up? They SHOULD be selling Metriod Prime HD with robust online multiplayer this holiday season and marketing to right up against COD, Battlefield and Killzone IMO.

It's a huge step up from earlier Family focused ads and while I do like it I think it needs a little bit more boom.
