The only two series I've seen get consistently better from generation to generation were the Yakuza series, as someone else mentioned, and the Tales series.

Tales of Eternia (Tales of Destiny II in the US) on PS1 was a big step above Tales of Phantasia (Super Famicom).
Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss were even bigger improvements over the PS1 games.
Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Xillia, as well as Graces' battle system, were still greater improvements over the PS2/GC era.

Now, the individual games weren't a consistent upward trajectory in terms of enjoyability, but by the end of the generation, the series was greatly improved over its iterations on the previous generation of consoles.

Tales of the Abyss came after Tales of Legendia, so the point still stands. :)

Oh your right, I thought Legendia was the last PS2 Tales of game, my mistake but Legendia and Abyss did release really close to one another.

For me it would be Zelda! Each new installment is better than the last one (at least for me)!!

I´m with you!

Thanks! Glad to know that at least someone agrees with me! Also I don't understand why but Skyward Sword was a little underrated to me, it was a really outstanding game .

well, I see it in the way that motion controls aren´t for everyone... and some people don´t like when things are different, it was truly an oustanding game

The Elder Scrolls... that's about it... every other series I can think of has that one game that just didn't measure up. If we're going by the notion that the newest game is the best out of the series then there are virtually none...

God of War lost its footing with Ascension, GTA with GTA IV, Pokemon with R/S/E, Halo with Halo 4(at least their excuse is solid, new developer) Zelda with Skyward Sword(personal preference but I think its fair to say it wasn't the best entry which certainly qualifies it to be on the list), Smash with Brawl, MG with Rising(though I'm not sure thats a main entry), and Resident Evil (needs no explanation).

Now most series seem to find their footing again but the Elder Scrolls is the only one I can name as having entries that are consistently better than it's predecessors.

Metal Gear Solid
Gran Turismo
Mario (platformers)
Virtua Fighter
NBA 2K
Persona
Ratchet & Clank
Hot Shots Golf
Yakuza

I want to throw in Guilty Gear and Armored Core in, but GG Asuka and AC V are trash.

I am the Playstation Avenger.
