Can someone define the condition of victory and loss? How does a console win? By having more sales? When does the competition start and when does it end?

I'm being sarcastic of course, but given the fact that we have no "rules", we can proclaim no "winners", or "losers". See, the guy above claims that 360 won the gen, as it had topped its predecessor's sales, while PS3 hadn't.

So set the rules now, by which we can see who's winning or losing in the entire 8th gen.

only MS fanboys tried to redefine winner after...well it loser. objective fact one sells more than other. so the fanboys say "wah but increase market, profits, etc" then I say well wii had market share and profit and they still lose. MS fanboy try to alter to win but cant, always losers.

I think you shouldnt be asking me that as i am one of the customers Microsoft lost for next gen. I have plenty of reason to complain about microsoft and think that its gonna be tough for them to surpass the 360 with the One.

Actually thinking about it, Microsoft was the one given as the sure winner of next gen, but got a tad arrogant with their policies, in the same way Sony did with the PS3 at the beggining. If anything i think Microsoft were the ones having a break and beeing left behind.

So you had a bad experience with the 360? I never owned one of their consoles so I wouldn't really know, but they seem to have managed the RROD pretty good or so they say.

Or maybe they where just trying a different approach! I think that was their vision since the start but they decided to reverse the policies due to the overwhelming bad reception . (I am not saying they where good though)

RROD cost me 75 euros for the repair, but the worst was the drought of exclusives after the first years and the policies they tried to enforce with the one. Payed online has always been a pain aswell. Its a good thing i dont actually like to play console games online. *hugs PC*

Sony got arrogant with the ps3, which made me switch to 360....
than ms got arrogant with xbox1 which jade me switch to ps4, I'm not loyal to any company,
I go with the best games

Well they did some nasty stuff, but maybe this gen they will correct their wrong doings! The Xbox One promises to have a lot of exclusive games!

Whether or not it will win depends on what you mean it to me.

For all intents and purposes, XBone has no chance whatsoever outside of North America and UK. In those 3 countries, (US, Canada, UK), the chances that Xbone will win decreases by their proximity to Europe.

So the country that it's most likely to win is US (which does NOT mean that this probability >50%).

In US
- Will it be competitive? YES
- Will it sell reasonably, maybe respectively? YES
- Will it have the same market as the 360 generation? NO
- Will it have more than 50% market share? UNLIKELY
- Will it be dominated by PS4 (Market share
This puts its market between 25% to 50% in US, mostly because
a) Negative publicity (Repel many)
b) High Price (Highly deterrent)
c) Underpowered hardware (Repel some)
among others...

But it may still not be dominated by PS4 because
a) Multimedia and TV features (appeal to some)
b) Kinect etc (appeal to some)
c) Windows Integration (appeal to some)
among others...

In Short,

X360
=> came earlier than PS3 and built momentum,
=> was always cheaper,
=> benefited initial developer friendly tools and programming
=> enjoyed high wave first party exclusives, better initial third party software
=> reaped network effects

Xbone
=> comes around the same time,
=> is more expensive,
=> is suffering from the lack of developer friendly tools and programming
=> enjoying some wave first party exclusives, but WORSE initial third party software
=> cannot reap network effects
=> but enjoys a brand recognition

Next Gen Consoles Impressions and Estimates

I hope not, if this past E3 is anything to go by, I can't imagine what would be the next move by Microsoft if they become leader in the video games industry.

The thing is the 360 also had plenty of exclusives at the start, so what they have to prove is that they wont dry up support after the first 2-3 years like they did with the 360. The forced kinect and the steep price dont help atm aswell.

Kudos to your optimism, but i just dont see them having an easy time. On the bright side it is do or die for them, so gamers came out winning cause Microsoft will make a continued effort to support the system with software... unless it doesnt sell well at all. Then god knows what they will do. May even drop out of the market for all we know.

For the first couple of years they may provide some exclusives but the Xbox360  shows that once the core gamers have bought their consoles Microsoft will devote 80% of its efforts to the casual gaming audience.

Yes, microsoft may correct their wrong doings. But given they started off this generation trying out bad policies for consumers there is no reason to think that they will.

This is the Game of Thrones

Where you either win

or you DIE

If Microsoft buys out almost every good third party game they can find they'll probably win. Sonys first party has them though...so yeah. How do you think Sony came back? LOL
