Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Through Cloud 'Problematic'

Has anyone considered whom all these features benefit? Can they be fully enjoyed at the US? Or at some internet-privilieged countries in Europe? Maybe not even those...

So what about the rest of the world? Those with crappy internet connections and those which may not be included in Gaikai/Cloud coverage at all. Will those people benefit from the power of the cloud or the services of Gaikai? Will they have backwards compatibility, streaming options and whatever else they're supposed to offer?

What if a game requires the cloud to run properly and those without access to it, play a simpler, "downgraded", version of it? What if someone with low internet speed tries to use the advertised Gaikai features?

Let us not pretend that the world is fully internet-contected place. Far from it. Those features seem great, all of them, but I think the day when we will seamlessly enjoy them is far to the future.

Instead of cloud streaming, we will likely see even more of what happened this gen - multiple games combined and repackaged as ps4/x1 games, or maybe eventually available for download. Honestly I prefer it this way, watching live streaming events is a real pain for me with the interruptions (I eventually gave up on watching all of sony's gamescom converage because of these) but this way is better.

That is true.

Microsoft Windows is notorious for being slowed down by backwards compatibility.  They addressed some of it in DriectX 10 in that it runs older games in a DirectX 9c environment.  They are dropping legacy compatibility with Windows 9 and the Xbox One.  They also nixed the old DirectX backwards compatibility from the Xbox One as they considered it bloat ware.

I’m still disappointed one can’t run X360 games on it, as it would be nice to just move Dance Central and some other games I still want to play onto my new system.  But they gave us fair warning.

The refreshed games usually look and run better anyway.  Look at the PS3 God of War I&II updates or the Halo CE: Anniversary for the X360.  Halo CEA looks better even in ‘legacy’ mode than it did on the original Xbox as it’s HD and progressive.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

It's pretty obvious this whole "Let's stream the whole thing from somewhere else" is never going to work. This was a marketing excuse day one to pacify the "backward compatibility people" - until the whole thing gets shot down in a year or two. It not only fails on bandwidth and ping rates, it also fails on the sheer computing capacity MS/Sony would have to provide for, and which nobody would be willing to pay for.

I hope poeple aren´t anticipating playing PS4 games over the Internet on their Vita.

It won´t work.

Remote play over Wif in the same room? Sony will (likely) nail it... over the Internet ? Good luck !

(ot: but the same will be true for PS3 games on the PS4 and XBone games)

Another great thing about PS4 imo. As far as the US goes, we're going to get a robust streaming service that features BC.

penello's wrong. kowenicki promised me that MS is years ahead of sony. they have the best engineers in the world, THE BEST.  sony will of course be playing catch-up on cloud technology for years to come.  they simply don't have the infrastructure...

Penello's statements don't exactly disprove anything Kowenicki said...

I do so love when people get exposed for talking out of their asses months later. It just makes it that much more satisfying.

OT: I am interested to see how Gakai can pull off BC through streaming when the service is open to an entire consumer base. I imagine it's a much more demanding undertaking than music and movies.

I don't expect a seamless, smooth and uninterrupted gaming experience with Gaikai. No way like the gaming we are used to.

So to boost your graphics on Xbone you have the infinite power of the Cloud but just to stream a old game not.

Internet connecting is a issue for one and not for other

DAT MS.

Comparing two different things and not understanding what they don't have in common leads to a bad conclusion.

Did you read and understand the text posted? Doesn't look so. It is what many people are saying about Gaikai and game-streaming in general. So before digging out old posts try to read next time what's in the op.
