They aren't really the same game at all though, just like the Mario Kart on 3DS and Mario Kart on Wii U aren't really the same game.

Opening sales may be hindered due to releasing at such close proximity, but Nintendo games have always been about the long game, and this will be no different.

 

I still expect Wii U sales to be absoulutely massive next year, easily greater than either the PS4 or One, so I'm not worried about console installbase ultimately. 10 million for both MK and Smash, +3D World and NSMB U if there are no follow up 3D or 2D Marios on the system.

The thing with Smash is, it's always been subjective whether the game sold the system, or the system sold the game. Brawl on the Wii didn't do monumentally better than Melee, the 3DS version of SSB4 will most likely be a big enough cure for the itch for those who don't have a Wii U.

I still think Melee was a bit of a fluke personally and benefitted from perfect timing during the GC launch window, had it been released between Mario Sunshine and MK Double Dash, I'm doubt the word of mouth would've been much different from the N64 game.


not to mention that word on the street is that the 3ds version is going to be closer than most think because Ninty wants parity between the two. So if that is true i cant see how the WIi U one will do 10mil on Wii U.

i would like to know what you think they can do for it to do 10mil cause no game in the series has even come close to it except for TP and that was becasue it was on two systems.

As much as i agree with you, two systems didnt matter, GCN sold wat like 1mil? (ok thats alot but Wii version is the second highest sold with almost 7mil!). 

 

The only zelda game that has a chance imo of getting first place (not saying it'll hit 10mil) is A kink between worlds. Amazing game with hopefully japanese even buy up 2mil copies lifetime. It looks like a true Retro zelda experience made!!!

you know what, i'm willing to make a bet that Mario Kart will sell over 10 million lifetime and put my account at stake, that's how much i think it will reach 10m.

Mario Kart 8 definitely.

I think New Super Mario Bros. U has the biggest chance outside of that one. Wii Sports only if they release a retail version of it. I don't see WiiFit U or something reaching the number. Also, because of the 3DS version, I don't think Smash Bros. will make it.

Why are you so sure about the PS4 succes? Wii U will be the best sellign platform of this upcoming gen, mark my words.

I just thought of another Wii U game that can have over 10 million sales - Pokemon Z!

If Nintendo makes Pokemon Z with HD visuals of X and Y and adds Pokemon Stadium content, then I think Pokemon Z can have over 10 million sales.

Wrong. On the PS4 it would be competiting with bigger IPs like BF, CoD, GTA, FIFA, Assassin's Creed, etc...

To answer the question, I'd say no.

Are they bigger IPs because you like them more?


They're bigger IPs because they sell more.
