I'd say 1 million is a pretty safe bet to approach profitability for that game. Personally I think it will do quite well with between 1.5-2.5 million sales lifetime.

i wouldnt say its a safe bet, considering just how long this has been in development and how big the changes that happened during developmet. this isnt a game that has been in the works just for the past 2 years, its been much more longer than that and went under numerous changes. im not trying to be a party pooper or anything, just pointing out something some people tend to forget.

there was a thread that nsanity made a few months back about just how long the development of the tittle took, if i remember correctly the creator had the idea of the game back in the xbox and ps2 days.

i have to say im glad we are getting all this ryse news today xD Cant wait for this game

Just because you have an idea doesn't mean you're actually working on it. But yeah I was basing it off of a lesser development budget which upon retrospect is probably quite incorrect. All things considered I have a feeling that MS has put this one up as a cost of launch (meaning they don't expect to make money on it but they have it there to help the X1 lineup and get more people to bite and buy one).

I'm sure all things considered it would probably take 2-3 million copies to break even (even more when you factor in as prices go down, so do the profit margins).

oh i just stated when the game has been in concept to just show how long they had the idea. yeah and i agree, maybe this one is put up as a cost of launch and maybe they felt this game can spwan a franchise and profit from future installments. overall though, its harder to pin point just how many copies this needs to profit. 1- because they are certainly going to have a digital version wich would make more money then a retail one. 2- this game will have DLC, if it has a lasting community that keeps buying the DLC it could actually make them quite a good deal of money, also arent there microtranscations? if so then that can be a huge money maker.

personally i wouldnt say that 3 million is needed. if i remember correctly 3 million is what max payne needed to break even. maybe between 1.5 -2 million would make them a nice profit, factoring in that a small percentage of these sales are digital. of course, this is just me talking pure speculation

also, if i find that thread nsanity made ill sure give it to you, quite an interesting read!

Really enjoyed that video, looked really good.

The video looked amazing. All I hope is they get the AI and the difficulty level right.

Also love how the GT comments now praise the game.

I also remeber the thing about the game being thought of years ago, but the development itself ?

Do you have any source for that ? As far as I know most next gen launch games have been granted short development periods.

Its not the length of development the only factor, its how much time and resource has been spent developing the game.  The size of the team also comes into play as well.  1 million probaby would break even for this game which would be enough for a sequel also depending on reception.

As for how well the game looks, it definitely has the eye candy thats for sure.  I wonder if Crytek has worked out a lot of the memory issues with the X1 so that if other devs use their engine they can obtain better performance.

read it, its pretty interesting. it was a gamepad game first, then kinect game then a gamepad game once again. of course it was in concept before it started development, but its been in dev time for quite a while. its been in development by more than one team and its went over budget. it was estimated for a Q1 release in 2011 when they first pitched the idea to MS. anyways ill let you read it. enjoy.

Thanks for the article. So the development on X1 started only in 2012. Amazing how they managed to get the technical aspects so advanced in such a short period.

We don't know if the gameplay deserves the praise yet, but the graphical whores should really be pleased with what this games says about X1 architecture.
