It is not a question that PS3 will exceed X360 in lifetime, but this tread is about the PS3 shipment vs. Xbox360 shipment up to date. Based on the official announcements from both companies, we know that:

1. The accumulative PS3 shipment didn't overtake Xbox360 in last December, 2012. The IDC report was absolute wrong and misinformed;
2. The accumulative PS3 shipment didn't overtake Xbox360 in the Q1, Q2 or even just past Q3 of 2013 (calendar year);
3. The accumulative PS3 shipment didn't overtake Xbox360 at least until 31st of October, 2013.

Anyway, big congratulations to PS3 and Sony regarding to how they turned around the PS3 fates. They did a great job since they launched PS3 slim in 2009 and continued to deliver good 1st party games.

Also, big congratulations to Xbox360 and Microsoft regarding to how they made Xbox360 reach 80million that beat many shipment forecasts from research firms back in 2005~2008. From 24million to 80million is a big milestone for MS.

After all, when this generation comes to the end, PS3 and Xbo360 are tied. We never saw this kind of competition in the history. Good for all of gamers.

Last of all, big LOL to Vgchartz about their tracking....

Why do we care? Both of these companies' next gen consoles will be out in just over two weeks.

Well I don't think the sales numbers are ever 100% accurate do to the industry's secretive habit. I would just call the 360 and ps3 a ti because they are too damn close to call, until we have a metric separation of at least 5 million units a lead would be clear.

its pretty obvious from the weekly sales that even if the calculations are off and the 360 was ahead by a few hundred thousand, which i seriously doubt, it would be behind in less than a month anyway.

but really, who cares? ps3 achieved the same sales if not more than the 360 in a whole year less on market, looking at it like that, when can imagine the 360 on a 7 lap race, ps3 gave it a year headstart but theyre still crossing the finish line neck and neck, if ps3 is ahead "we won and beat the underdog", if the 360 is ahead "we won but we were given a headstart", so its meaningless either way.

both consoles have had some amazing games in their lifetime, that dear boys and girls, is whats important, or do you buy consoles to sit on forums and puff up your chests about sales data only?

Lol, how many.people were talking about the ps3 passing the Wii? With the new Wii mini about to release, it sounds like a pipedream.

This is about being correct to date. PS3 does have the momentum and will surpass the 360, just not yet. Unless of course MS does the illest price cut in history. Uh-oh there goes the mirage that is the impending 360 price cut again, shame on me.
