Forums - Sony Discussion - UPDATED - 7th Gen - 'Which System Won The Console War' - Poll Added

Who really won the the 7th Gen Console War?

Nintendo 138 46.46%

Xbox 360 30 10.10%

PS3 92 30.98%

Make Love Not War 17 5.72%

See Poll 17 5.72%

Total:294

Let's be honest if it wasn't for the price tag on PS3 in the first year or two, there would never of been a console war this generation.

PS3 & Xbox 360 for that matter also benefited from the longest console cycle 7 years...... Nintendo din't have enough foresight to release a new console in 2011. Clearly Nintendo's Wii add no more steam left after 2010 and Nintendo really needed to get a HD console to market before holiday 2012.

But you should have a disclosure that PS3 won the world wide console war. If you only look at the market of interest to us, North America, Xbox 360 is the clear winner and Microsoft is on pace to outsell the Wii lifetime in North America.

If you take out the Japanesse market which will never really support Microsoft console. Then the Xbox 360 still as better numbers life time then PS3.

Beside on the software side Wii still leads the race:

Wii 848,883,468
X360 789,582,075
PS3 711,505,002

Saleswise, and by judging the amount of AAA exclusives, clearly.

But they weren't really the underdog, I bet a majority of 360 owners were (previous) PS2 owners, making a "transition" back to the Playstation Nation easier.

With free online, PS+ and many exclusives PS3 does at least deserve to be the winner, but I think that's something everybody has to decide for themselves.

This isn't going to end well... I expect a minimum of two bans to come from this thread.
If you think PS3 won, cool, if not, cool as well. In reality, does it really affect you? I guess for some it does.

I don't think so. At this point this flamebait is only worth a *yawn*.

In terms of games and sales the Wii was the clear winner. In terms of which console lost the most money the Ps3 may have a big advantage tho.

"Wii are legion, for Wii are many"

everyone saying "I didn't know 80M was bigger than 100M herpity derp" obviously didn't read the article.

"In fact, PlayStation 3's still selling so well in its twilight that there's a genuine chance it can surpass the Wii's 100 million mark and enter the books as this generation's biggest seller hands down (let's be clear: no-one is buying Wiis anymore)"

When it comes to games and services, PS3 > Wii, so all that's left is the raw number of units sold. And since the PS3 is still selling over 100K a week (before the holidays, it hit 179K in the last update and it's just gonna go up) and the Wii is just breaking 25K during the holidays, the PS3 may catch up, if it has any kind of longevity like the PS2 had

It would be a boring gen if it was just sony imo.

My last gen console was a PS3, but i really think nintendo won. I mean, not only wii sold more, but nintendo had profit on each of them.

Software wise ps3 sold 711 mil, against 789 mil from xbox360 and 848 mil from nintendo. I do think that first party titles give a better profit, and sony IPs are better than MS, but nintendo would still win here (i think more than 400 mil wii games were 1º party).

And honestly, console war? Stop with this thing and go play the games.

Just because you sell the most doesn't mean they won. They went down from 150 to possibly 100 million. Nintendo went from 22 to 100. And 80 to 150. I can't see how Sony can be the winner of the gen. Although they are specificly talking about the PS3 here. Still, the PS3 let all their opponent's catch up, and we still do not know if it will be the best seller, for those that only looks at that, and not the whole picture.

It's not really fair to say "it went from 150 to 100" and look at that as a bad thing. The PS2 was a little over 100M when the PS3 came out....and then kept on selling. It was on the market for 13 years. To compare 13 years to 7 years and then say since the console that has been on sale for 6 years less time sold less units, it "went down" is ignorant. Check the numbers again in 2019/2020. That's like looking at the iPhon 5s and say "it has sold less than the iPhone 4s, so it's not as successful as its predecessor" while ignoring the fact the 5s hasn't been out anywhere near as long as the 4s
