They need more HD remakes: SMB3, SMW, Super Metroid, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Mario Party 1-3, Mario Kart 64, etc.

Only if it's outsource.... I never really plated Majora's Mask would love to see a HD remake.

Nintendo actually has to fear to bring a new IP. Because it's much harder to establish a character, especially in videogames. look at sony trying and failing with sackboy, sly and all the others.
I think Sony knows that. All their highly praised, godlike designers grew old. they'd fall pretty hard nowadays.

maybe they could make a grumpycat game or something. the internet gives birth to hyped characters nowadays.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

Lots of suggestions of an adult franchise, especially a shooter or rpg. I think it would have been a great idea if Nintendo had delayed/upgraded The Last Story for launch with Wii U. With that and X coming later, they could have got the jump on the JRPG crowd. That demographic is a very influential one. They may only be a few million gamers, but they are core gamers and gamers that influence more casual audiences. Kinda like how the creator of Glee said "If we get the gay audience follow us, the others will follow". JRPG fans are hardcore like that and great to capture. It's too late for Wii U to launch with The Last Story, but X could still attract a lot of RPGers. As far as a shooter goes, that would be a nice addition, but I think to bring in a fresh audience it would need to be unique and special in some way, I'm not sure exactly how.

I think Nintendo needs to start advertising to kids. Thats were the money is, especially christmas time

though it isn't developed by nintendo, anyone who's looking for new "franchises" on wii u: play the wonderful 101

Nintendo does new some fresh IPs, as any company does. But on the other side of that token, no new IP is going to magically sell by the millions nor help Wii U sell more all by itself. You need established, well known properties to accomplish that, hence Mario, DK, Zelda, Wii ____, etc.

And while I do think they will produce new IPs, both in-house and 2nd/3rd party (Miyamoto keeps mentioning working on something new), to be fair they have produced new IPs over the last few years, such as Rhythm Heaven, such as Xenoblade/X, such as Wonderful 101 which just came out, etc.
