Forums - Gaming Discussion - How Does 2014 Look For JRPGs?

Dark Souls is developed in Japan but more of a Western RPG style(Even the original developers of Demon's Souls referred to it as a western RPG). I'd hardly call that a JRPG if we are considering the genre diference.  People usually refer to a JRPG and WRPG based off of their style difference rather than where they were made.  If you are going to include that you might as well include western RPG games as well if you are saying they arent different.

It is like comparing  FPS and a TPS.  Very different styles that are judged accordingly.   Where they were made makes no difference.  If japan makes a FPS game we arent to call it JFPS.  We just call it FPS.

Looks like slim picking outside of whats available on Nintendo Consoles

What do you mean?  The majority of the games in the OP are on the PS3.

All of them are re-releases. Toukiden's more of a hunting game, Drakenguard is a weird mix of Musou with RPG as well

Your list is also missing quite a few games. Alot of them.

SMT x FE, Devil Survivor Rerelease numba 2, localized rpg  1-2-3-4-5-6-7 for the 3DS along with the other games the WiiU wil have.

Dark Souls 2 is the only one on that list I want. I woudn't mind more Valkyria games on PS3/PS4 though!

Honestly, Dark Souls/Demon's Souls games aren't exactly JRPG's in my opinion, they are a lot more similar to WRPG's. Luckily, they appear not to have the greatest weaknesses of either genre!

Demon Gaze
Ys: Memories of Celceta (Europe)
Sorcery Saga (Europe)

I wouldn't really say that Toukiden is a JRPG. If you're counting that, you might as well count Ragnarok Odyssey Ace/Soul Sacrifice Delta.

For the moment I only have Super Heroine Chronicle and Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment in my schedule. I hope they announce more in the coming weeks, and that FFXV lands in Japan within 2014.

Added those.

X will be good, maybe the tales games, other than that it isnt much to look forward to...

Imo if it wasn't for the Tales of games this year would be pretty bad, the Tales of games bring it up to acceptable I'd say.

Really hope X makes a 2014 release in the west.
