Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Before the Wii U launched, how successful did you think it´d be a year later?

I expected about ten million sold by the end of year one. Xbox 360 expectations but actually achieved. Boy, was I wrong. I think 7th gen consoles are just too capable. Even the 4 and the One may suffer.

I did not want to believe the system was gonna do the same as 360 and ps3 the first 2 years. Now it seems like that would be the case.

I thought from the claims of supposedly better hardware and 3rd party support with the combination of the typical Nintendo exclusives, I figured it would be a success, too bad it became the complete opposite!

I didn't think the Wii U would be doing as poorly as it has cause it has some really stellar games like Nintendo Land and New Mario U which were available basically since launch.

I am also surprised about the poor sales/reception of the excellent PS-Vita. It is so much better as hardware and OS than the 3DS, yet it hardly sells while the 3DS has the software support and sales momentum.

The interesting thing is that Nintendo was able to recover from lack of that initial momentum on the 3DS, while on the Wii U I haven't seen anything from them that really turns things around.

Maybe the 3DS finally picked up after the PS-Vita came out with a poor launch and the Wii U needs similarly dismal launch from both Xbox One and PS4 before it starts getting traction. History has always favored the weakest/cheapest machine and for next-gen the Wii U certainly has that going for it.

i though it would have broke 5 million by now

VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

I knew it wasn't going to take off like the Wii did. I knew it would struggle a little until bigger games would come out, but I expected them to come out way sooner and more often. I thought the WiiU would be at about 10m, so a little better than what PS360 managed in their first years. It should have been at 6-7m instead of just 4m now, so I expected it to do almost twice as good as it is doing today. Still, I think it will end between 50-60m (which, okay, is a little lower than the 'NES-level' I once predicted).

I can't quite remember my opinions on it, I didn't think it'd bomb tho, didn't think it'd reach Wii heights either.

I remember thinking they'd get parity with third party support, how wrong was I!

I remember predicting it being a failure in achieving what Nintendo wants of it, bogged down by PS360 all up until the successors released by Microsoft/Sony in Mid/Late 2013. Almost nailed it, thought it'd be extremely hard to find the original post I bet :/

Never predicted actual numbers.

PS3 and 360 did miles better than WiiU on their first year.

OT: I thought it'd outsell N64 at least, but it seems that ain't happening now.
