SOURCE: Microsoft has released information on the previous Xbox One title. According to this video, the Xbox One was previously called the Xbox 720p. However, because it was too similiar sounding to the highest resolution it could output, they changed the name to the, now popular, Xbox One.

Nothing is wrong with 720p... If you're playing on a console that came out 7 years ago. The problem isn't that 720p is somehow bad, it's that this is supposed to be a next gen console and 720p is current gen standards. People shouldn't be expected to spend $500 on a product that is evidently only somewhat better than the product they already own, especially when said product's competition is actually a huge leap ahead and cheaper at that.
