to summarize
2011 was epic
2012 was great
2013 is great (Mostly because of LastofUs and GTA5)

2014 looks ok to me at the moment, to be honest, many unannounced games so it's way too early to call it an amazing year. OP, your list is not amazing at all; not to mention, you even included titles like Uncharted 4 which is not even announced. Feels like you were bored and wanted a reason to post something.

I still remember the night we got it.  Driving to the store, i remember which store it was.  Getting it home, playing mario and F-zero..  I would have been 6 and i can remember VERY little before I was ten..  but that night is forever there.

ign is known for ripping on Nintendo, but if i had to guess maybe cuz everybody (including myself) thought retro studios was making metroid U lol! DK goes back to its old SNES roots. It lives up to Hardcore 2D platforming. Its a really good game, no lie! If you want a challenge try the first DK returns. they have a wii version and a 3ds version!

I don't get this OP. I guess I understand if you think Microsoft and Nintendo have nothing to offer, but wouldn't you list those games any way, if only to bolster your argument that 2014 is the greatest year? Games like Tropical Freeze, Bayonetta 2, Kinect Sports Rivals, and Yoshi's New Island would only strengthen your case. Unannounced games, like Uncharted 4 and Black Ops 3, and upscaled ports, like The Last of Us and Gran Turismo, do not.

I guess it's a moot point any way, since I disagree about 2014 being the greatest year. 1998 holds that record and I'd be shocked if 2014 dislodged it. Games have been getting worse, not better.

For that matter, 1993 was a pretty damn good year: Star Fox, MKII, Myst, Doom, Samurai Shodown 1, Super Mario All-Stars, X-Wing, Kirby's Adventure, Ridge Racer 1, Secret of Mana, Sonic CD, Virtua Fighter 1, Shining Force, Rocket Knight Adventures, Link's Awakening, World Heroes 2, etc.

Or hell, 1994: Super Metroid, Mega Man X, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Killer Instinct (arcade), Donkey Kong Country, Demon's Crest, Sonic 3, Samurai Shodown II (arcade), Breath of Fire, Shining Force II, Illusion of Gaia, Star Tropics 2, Earthworm Jim, Darkstalkers, Doom II, Tekken, KoF '94, Castlevania: Bloodlines, plus the Saturn came out.

I mean there were some really fuckin great years in the 90s....that whole decade was honestly bad ass for gaming.

No. I seriously think it's a longshot from being the best year in gaming so far. The year after new consoles launch is hardly ever as good as 2 or 3 years into the console cycle. Again, no.
