Witch Beam Explains Why Cactus Won’t Be on Xbox One, Clarifies PS4 Comments

In a SheAttack exclusive interview with the makers behind Assault Android Cactus, Witch Beam discusses why their new venture will not be debuting on the Xbox One alongside the Wii U, PS4, and PS Vita versions early next year. The original quote states:

Q: Is there any chance that Cactus could possibly come to the Xbox One?

A: I’d say this, right now, I never say never, but I would say no – it’s not happening. We originally talked to Microsoft before E3-ish and the response was that they weren’t interested in it because they had their Xbox Live Arcade system at the time and the only way that we could have got on the Xbox was to go and find a third party publisher that we didn’t need, give them a chunk of our game for doing nothing other than getting us a slot, and then pay lots of money to figure out how to develop it. Then later on they were like, “Uh, sorry we totally always planned to have self publishing, but we just didn’t tell you two months ago.” So, that changed everything. Since then, I talked to a Microsoft representative at EuroGamer Expo and they never got back to me. So, basically we’re on six platforms and don’t have time to mess about with people who aren’t interested.

Sanatana Mishra, designer, also explained what he meant in more detail with his PS4 comments that made headlines just a few weeks ago. In a nutshell, he explains that Assault Android Cactus is a fast-paced game that relies on a smooth framerate for a better play experience. The original quote states:

Nia: You made some very controversial statements about the PS4 and I just wanted you have this moment to clarify your statement so that people can understand a little bit better what you were trying to say and where you were coming from.

Sanatana Mishra: “Well, it’s funny because the original statement I made that was so controversial was about the power levels of the consoles and I was talking purely technical, like stats, when you write it down on a piece of paper. Which if you write down the specs on any console, PC, whatever on apiece of paper , and you look at it, the PlayStation specs were higher, what else can I say? Who knows whether that translates to over 7 years – the thing with the most pretty games and the best games, I can’t say for sure because that’s predicting the future, right?

For the full interview and insight on all three consoles, be sure to give it a listen over on our SheAttackTV channel on YouTube.

Ms is not good for gaming, sorry, that's how I feel, timed DLC never existed or timed exclusives never existed until MS came along. Their practices are shady and under handed IMO. MS is what happens when gaming is put into the hands of accountants and executives.

Where there is smoke there is fire

Absolutely... THIS.

Didnt john blow say similar things?

“Uh, sorry we totally always planned to have self publishing, but we just didn’t tell you two months ago.”

Look, I applaud Microsoft for getting around to addressing the growing discord they were having with smaller developers but I don't think anyone really believes this was something they were planning "all along". You don't tell developers "no" in that situation, you say something like "check back with us soon."

The Microsoft change in policy was so late that it's pretty clearly a response to what Sony and Nintendo are doing, the responses from the public and the media over the growing divide and, most importantly, the fact that small developers were skipping the Xbox One in significant numbers.

I'm not surprised that more than a few developers have expressed frustration with the sudden 180. However, on the positive side, anything can be fixed. The people at Microsoft are too smart not to make the necessary changes. I think we'll see them repair many of these frayed relationships in the future. Also, as always, money can go a long way toward making people forget past mistakes.

Fun game looks very fun. Not being interested is Microsoft's loss.
The best thing about this is actually the article picture, I may use it for my avatar or signature eventually...
