This is the quote:
"Fils-Aime said the Wii U business “is up and up strongly throughout this entire calendar year.” Software sales have almost doubled and hardware sales are up about 40 percent over last year."
Honestly, i think he's just talking about US sales.
Despite the figures being good, they are still not good enough for Wii U.
Wii U had a bad year in 2013. The only system seller was in fact Mario 3D World, with Wind Waker and Pikmin 3 doing some sales lifting. It also had to fight the hype for not one, but two new consoles.
In comparison, this year, the console had MK8, Smash, Hyrule Warriors, DK, Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad (in the US and Japan).
Of course that Wii U this year would have a better year in sales for HW and SW, the problem is that the numbers are still too low. With 2 weeks to go, they would need 700K in sales just to reach last year's numbers.
And that with a better line-up and new consoles on the market.
As much as i like seeing Wii U sell more than last year, it needed to be selling a whole lot more to really secure it's future.
